Jdm Evo 4 vs US Evo 8 vs Jdm Evo 8
Whats the difference besides the obvious
Usdm - has egr, map and other tabs
Jdm 8 - no map or egr
Jdm 4 - no map, egr or tube
Is that tube on the runners for the pcv? Is there any other thing Im not seeing? Read the evo 8 is good up to 700+ and 8300 rpms, cant find anything on the jdm 4 but it looks like the same. Any thoughts?
So this is a Jdm Evo 4 or is it something else? Notice it doesnt have anything like the above, is it still the same power and rpm output as the usdm 8 limit...

Evo4 intake manifolds just used that big nipple for the PCV.
Evo5+ they went to that long connected tube for the PCV.
The only downside to the earlier manifolds it that they might not have the vacuum ports and castings for the various sensors you need.

Went ahead and bought this

Why? The runners seemed to be bigger on the top one over the second link. Having it reflanged either by Bill Hincher or the local machine shop to be used a on 1G head like in this thread. Sold my knock off cause I figured the airflow from making the plenum smaller might make a negative effect on it. Reflanged version is lower on that page.

you bought my evo manifold off ebay. I believe the runners are the same from evo 4-9. its been a while since I looked at them side by side. the jdm manifolds are just cleaner looking and a bit lighter with less junk on them. I think its just the picture that makes those other runners look smaller
why wouldnt you just use the 7 bolt head? you wouldnt have to weld flange to the manifold. just fill the injector ports with epoxy and its ready to use. 7 bolt ports work far better as well.

I bought an Evo 8 manifold for my Evo 4. I made the comparission in that time, and its better the Evo 8 compare to Evo 4 manifold.
If you want more power, you can do like me. Buy a stock evo 8 manifold and ported. Mine has 70mm the inlet witha S90 thrttle body.

So if the Evo 5+ has the pcv tube across the runners then the one I bought listed as a 4 isnt really a 4. It looks closer to Buschurs Jdm 8, any thoughts.....
And to the 7 bolt comment, I thought the 7 bolt head required a separate cam sensor and crank sensor where as the 6 bolt was on the backside of the camshaft. Plus I read the oil passages are different, the 6 bolt oil pump doesnt have a provision for a 7 bolt crank sensor and the thermostat and water pump from a 6 block wont work with a 7. Plus the 6 head is better for top end while the 7 is better for low end.

there are evo 3 manifolds with and without the PVC tube. I think there are countries that dont require PVC. thats the first 4-9 one I have seen.
the 7 bolt head is easy swap on 6 bolt block. head has to be drilled to accept larger head studs. can be done with hand drill but is easier on a drill press. other than that its a direct swap.

From another website
"Another thing that becomes important for us RWD swappers is cam angle sensor (CAS) location. On the 1G heads the CAS is located on the back of the head. With the motor in the stock location, the sensor is tight enough to the firewall that it will be impossible to remove without pulling the motor. With the 95-96 2G head, there is a CAS on the front of the head behind the cam gear. Fitting the crank sensor is a different challenge and has yet to be resolved with an easy fix."
So no its not a direct swap.
