Hood Heat Shield

So I was swapping out my hood vents and scoop today, and I while in the middle of it one of my friends decided to leave, and destroyed my heat shield with his car (I had it in the sun drying because I had just cleaned it.) How mandatory is this? Pictures are showing what I'm missing.

If you don't want your paint to discolor and your center vent to warp, you're going to want that heat shield. The rest of it (black stuff) is more sound deadening than heat shield.

Hmm good question, im in for an answer to this as well. The one ig thing I dont understand, is why one of the holes in the shield is so much smaller than the other to let air through the hood scoop?? Never understood this. Debated even taking a dremel to the left tide opening to make it match the right side one.

Looks like lots of people run it without any of the shields and it seems to actually cool better. You should be good to go without the heat shield.

A lot of people do seem to run without them. But I would worry about sitting at idle after a hard run the shield is designed for heat shielding while at a stop as well used for air venting.
