everyone thanx again for replying

kmcconn9 do you work for CC by any chance and thanx for that letter diagram that you rigged up...gave me a better picture on what's going on

now things are starting to shape up and have a plan to do this

to summarize i need 3 adapters for this project

1) metra 80-7001 harness = power
2) Soundgate adapter = to use the stock amp
3) radio harness that matches my new HU

now what is that black single long wire on the metra 80-7001 harness and where does it hook up?

a cheaper solution would be to get the metra 70-7003 harness, in includes both peices above, and is cheaper in the end.

I was going to try to do this myself but I was overwhelmed when I saw all those cables. I tried to connect them but the white end on the metra cable 7001 does not fit my new HU.

I assume your new HU came with its own wiring. It plugs into the back of the HU and has wires between 8 and 12 inches long, which terminate in stripped ends. I also assume that the HU has RCA jacks on the back for pre-outs.

Now, the Metra 70-7003 adapter (or the Soundgate adapter and whatever other adapter), used in conjunction with the new HU's wiring, will enable you to just plug the new HU into the car's wiring.

Plug the single, round DIN cable into the cable that goes to the stock amp. Plug the 4 RCA plugs into two sets (front and rear) of RCA jacks on the back of the HU. Also connect the single thin wire from this cable to the remote turn-on wire from your HU.

Match up the wires from the other part of the Metra adapter to the wires that come out of the back of your new HU. Battery power, ACC (switched) power, illumination, are the important ones. Ground is best run directly from the HU to chassis ground.

Plug the adapter into your car's wiring under the dash, plug into your HU, plug in antenna wire, and put the HU in the dash. Done.

If I have to, I can pull out my HU and take good pics of my wiring.
