I didn't take it off. There is enough room where you can slide some tape between the chrome ring and the rest of the bumper. So if you are careful you can cover everything up and just spray away.
I read on here previously that taking the bumper apart was difficult so I didn't want to bother with it.

push back the black mesh piece and reach in behind the ring to get at the lower screws.
...........all that is needed is a stubby phillips screw driver.
in the pic you can see where all the screws will be located. i think the ring is much easier to work with when off the car.
it takes maybe 15-20 min. to get off.

Oh, those badges are different from the one's I was looking at, nice pieces though, I really like the one inside as well!
I have been thinking about doing the front grill ring in black as well. It looks sharp in flat black IMO.

i forgot heat was going to shrink the pieces.
i had to "fill in" with about a 4" section on ether side.
i am going to re-do... and remember to over size the two pieces.
oh yeah , yes i trace the out line of the ring onto the back side of the vinyl.
