Question Painting My Brake Calipers

So I bought the red caliper paint that's made for high temperatures. I also bought the brake cleaner to clean off the calipers before I paint them. My only question remains...

Should I just mask off the area I'm going to paint and leave the calipers on the car? Or should I remove the whole caliper which would require me to remove the break line and then I'd have to bleed my brakes afterwards?

Blah!

I know alot of you OZ people have done this. Let me know please! I don't want to mess anything up

I spray painted my last car's calipers - as long as you mask everthing off, you should be fine. Just make certain you're in a well ventilated area, or the paint will float around and get on everything! (including uncovered areas)

I painted mine this weekend. Mask the whole area, then mask some more. When you think you got everything masked and good to go, mask some more.

I say this because I got some overspray on my fender and some suspension parts.

Good luck.

Just take your caliper off, it's not that hard. The extra time is worth the better quality job and saves you the hastle of worrying about masking stuff off.

Yeah, but then you gotta bleed the brakes like I had too, and that takes awhile, and more money of course cuz you'll need to buy brake fluid, and you'll also get the freshly painted calipers dirty from the brake pads when you're re-installing your calipers. It was a f'n hastle and if I had to do it all over again I'd probably just mask the hell out of the area and left them on while doing it. All in all, they look good, now I need to do the back 2 lol

I am going to be doing this today, My friend just did it on the his Subaru. He took aoff the brake calipers but clamped the lines so he didn't have to bleed them. Hopefully I can get pics up tonight of how we're doing it.

Not sure how you'd be able to clamp them so that no air enters the system. Some fluid is going to leak out between teh clamp and caliper and if you fumble the caliper a bit you're going to lose fluid out of it as well.
That being said, if the car is already up on stands and you have a buddy, bleeding the brakes is a 10 minute affair.
