A coil pack.

I spoke with him yesterday. Said it will run but he has something pulling power from the battery so it wont start on its own. And when it is running it will sputter and not want to rev above 5000-ish.

I had a short in the main wire for my MFI relay...took forever to find, it was so frustrating...

yeah I didn't realize at first i was getting the 12v with the ignition off (you were the one who caught that ), cause I checked for it originally with the ignition on...it had 12v no matter what, and not from the MFI relay either

back on topic, I'm really stoked you're making progress Gary...

I don't feel that way though, for before it went in to that shop, the tune was probably at its best since I went turbo in 2013, and now that the coil pack was replaced, I've got new problems that weren't there before! I am throwing a code now though: P0300 Random misfire. If I'm WOT it starts to sputter at 5000 rpm and wont exceed 5500. If I'm shy or less than 5000 rpm, it'll accelerate and boost past it to redline. Only at WOT does it fail.

As far as the parasitic drain, I feel like I'm back to when I had the gauges wired to constant power, instead of the blue and white wire at the ignition switch. I disconnected the power to the gauges but that wasn't the culprit. What I am noticing though, is when the headlight switch is in the AUTO position, I shut the car down by turning off the ignition, pulling the keys out of the ignition and then opening the door, the lights are not shutting off like they should. Any ideas? For now, I'm pulling the negative battery cable off so I don't have a dead battery in the morning. And oh, speaking of batteries, I was able to use the manufacturer warranty on my red optima and got a replacement after 2 years of abuse! So now I have a new battery to thrash and I've already drained it once with this parasitic drain!

Check the piece of microprocessing crap under the hood that controls the lights. Exactly how you would trouble shoot it though, I dont know.

Driver's side, in one of those plastic boxes with the fuses and relays.
It's rectangular in shape and has maybe 10 pins on each side.

The big green loaf of bread-like ECU (ETAC) relay? That thing was chattering away when I first noted that the lights had stayed on and the battery was nearly dead. Was thinking of replacing that...should I?
