RRM Underdrive Pulley Gas Mileage

For those of you interested in a little bit better gas mileage, I found that by using the RRM Pulley on my 2006 5-speed Ralliart, I gained 1 mile per gallon. Since our gas tanks are so small this only means about 10 extra miles between fillups, but I'll take whatever I can get.

Also, I have to say that this pulley mod was the easiest pulley install I've ever done on any vehicle. I didn't bother to take off the front wheel or jack up the car. I pulled off the plastic shroud, took off the belt, unbolted the stock pulley, bolted on the new pulley, installed the new belt, and reattached the shroud.

I highly recommend this mod.

Definitely an easy pulley to install. Last night I helped Z_Lancer_Man install his pulley on an 03 OZ, and that was a complete PITA.

you must be a very small person to crawl under the car to do this mod.
not sure i've noticed any increase in gas mileage. I have however noticed that my lights go dim when i'm in neutral, and bright again when i rev or put the car in gear, but checked the voltage and its fine. this really is a mod you will notice.

I put the pulley on the car while it was on the dyno. It can be done with the wheel still on.

I am happy to hear you like the pulley.

I'm not small. I just turned the wheels all the way to the right and went from there. Never got under the car at all. Just reached in.

My downpipe and short ram intake just arrived from RRM. This might be a little bit more work than the pulley.

Not much. SRI is super easy. Downpipe is easy once you get the stock bolts off. My were seized, so it took some work.

RRM website

when RRm was discussing how they installled the new pulley and found new hp. at first it yielded no difference. then installed stock, that yielded normal hp. then reset the ecu, no difference. then put new pulley back on while on dyno and then gained this hp. or something like that.
so can you just install pulley and drive away and hp is there? or do you have to reset ecu?

Resetting the ECU will take longer to get the benefits. I have tried this and saw it was better when you just put it on and drove away.

The pulley is not dampened and will give you maybe 1mpg better as some other users have reported. Key to good gas mileage is satyaing out of the MIVEC, or below 3500rpm. I typically get 20mpg city and ardounf 25mpg hwy. You are carrying more weight at 3020lbs vs 2843 for the sedan. Although this is lower mpg than the sticker, considering everything it isn't that bad because the quality of gasoline has decreased.
