Oil Change need input
#17
I ran Mobil1 from the second oil change (first one was conventional oil @500 miles) until the last oil change @ 70,000. Then I tried Royal Purple. Next time I change the oil, I will probably put in RP again, then maybe change back to M1 to see if there's a noticeable difference.
5w20, every 5000 miles now. For a while I was using 3750 mile intervals (half of 7500), and the drain oil looked pretty clean, so I bumped it up to 5000 a while ago, and have had no problems from it.

Something to keep in mind is that the furthur apart the numbers, the less effective the oil is. A chemist would explain it better than I, but something about the polymers in the oil being stretched too much with that much of a variance.
Here's a good link to explain it - http://auto.howstuffworks.com/framed...nfo/oiled.html

5w-20 is better (Mitsu recommended, too), and both numbers are important. The first number is the thickness when cold, and the second is the thickness when hot.

I'm assuming then that the dealer would put in 5w20 and not 5w30? Especially considering I live in Canada.
