How does the ECU control the Vtec changeover? How much influence does the Vtec controller have over ECU funtion in a Honda application?

If it is as simple as input and output voltages then maybe, but you would have to reprogram the controller and still would have problems due to the complexity of the Mivec ECU functions. the mivec is controlled by too many factors for a simple fix to change it. If you force mivec on or off outside of it's normal range the ECU senses that and throws a cel. the vtec controller would not only have to send an oil pressure signal it would have to circumvent other triggers in the ECU used to determine if the engine should be in Mivec or not.

It seems that cracking the ECU would be the simplest way to control the changeover because if the ECU is "supposed" to do it you won't get a CEL.

that's the first time I ever heard an evo guy say buy a honda, and it will most likely be one of the only times

if reliability was the question I doubt any of us would be posting here. That's pretty much why we are posting here, because we want to sacrifice easy reliable power for power we can afford and reliability we maintain ourselves. Modding a car for more power is the opposite of creating realiability, and if we were rich (or at least not low middle class lancer purchasers) we would have just bought a (fill your wet dream car in here).

Exclamation

Can you tell us what kind it is or who makes it. MIVEC and vTEC are kinda similar in function. The guys behind MIVEC on the 4G69 are ex Honda vTEC employees.

I kinda doubt that it will work. The VAFC taps specific wires on the hondas harness related to VTEC engagement that the mitsu does not have.

H and B series Hondas had mechanical VTEC Selinoids that were triggerd by oil pressure. Where the Mivec is computer controlled kinda like the K series hondas.
