The trans should last the life of the car.
As for the clutch, there is no set service interval. It's just like brakes, you replace it when it wears out.
They were trying to take him to the cleaners. A new trans has a list price of $2,700. Obviously, with a bit of searching, you can find a new or used one for cheaper.

all i got to say as an ex mitsubishi triple diamond certified technician, is that if you know what you are doing and have the right equipment you can change the clutch in a ralli in about 4 hours and the evo isnt that much harder.

UPDATE
After numerous calls and the run around Mitsubishi finally faxed me a copy of the inspection. Here is what Mitsubishi found out after the inspection:
This is what they say I need to fix my car:
New:
Shortblock - MN158030 - $2822.46
Oil Pump - MN137803 - 267.63
Gaskets - MD979394 - 242.93
M/T - MD979479 - 2837.94
Labor: $2380
Parts: $6252
+ $300 (Misc. repairs/parts) = $8932
Used:
Motor/Trans
Labor: $1700
Parts $4500 = $6200
So this is where I sit, I don't even have 6200 for the used, so going new is out of the question. Are they pulling my leg? This is expensive as hell and I would never shop in hell!

Well if I had to choose between the 2, I'd rather go new. That way you know the transmission is brand new and know what it has been through. On top of that you also get a warranty with it. So if the transmission breaks in 2 months, they have to fix it.
Kinda sucks it's that much (9k), because you can find a used R/A for 11k+... I just paid 12k for my black sun R/A.
I don't know man, tough one. If I were you, I'd learn how to work on cars because this stuff (at least the transmission) can be accomplished at home, which would shave off 1700 in labor.

you should be able to get a used engine and tranny for far less then 4500.
engine should cost you $900-1300
tranny should cost you $400-600
are you getting played for a fool used, HELL YES

P.S. A few weeks ago Mitsubishi quoted me $5300 to fix everything, used of course. I don't want to bite, hell I can't, I don't have $5300,
Any help anyone?
Thanks, Arith.
EDIT: Otter, if possible, can you change my title to read RIP Tranny: 9/22/04 - 8/7/07 and not clutch? My clutch is perfect, tranny is dead.
Thanks.

First search, found a used 04 tranny for $350 and only 20miles away from me and a used engine for $650 located near Road Race Motorsports,
Quick question, our Rallairts share the same motor as the previous Outlander? 4G69?
