Reducing wieght of stock flywheel

I have searched the forums and I could not come across what I am looking for. I am wondering how safe is it to lighten a stock Ralliart flywheel at a machine shop, professionally done and balanced. My friend has done his Integra flywheel and got it down to 12 pounds. He has had no problems. I am off coarse afraid that it would make our flywheel lose its strength and be in danger of breaking and flying through the firewall. This is because I have already seen a cracked flywheel on one of the threads here (due to a different reason tho). This method is very cost effective but I guess it could be potentially dangerous. What is your guy's take on this. It is dangerous to do it? Is it just better and save more money to buy a clutchmasters flywheel. I am leaning more towards the aluminum flywheel, but the idea was thrown at me by my friend so I just wanted your guy's take on this, since I don't know how strong our stock flywheel is. Thanks.

You're not going to be able to save much weight, and you'll see why when you take a look at the stock flywheel. With the way it's designed, the majority of the weight is around the edges of the flywheel, and there's not a whole lot you could take off with machining without going beyond the factory tolerances. Aluminum is the way to go.

What i did to my Clutchmasters flywheel was take THAT to a machine shop, and they told me they shaved about 2-3 more LBS off it. Every little bit counts. I guess i gotta STAGE 2 flywheel
