Ok, so here are the pictures i took last weekend but forgot to upload...
here she is topless, ready to pull the head
and here she is stripped down
Here's a piston shot
And, here is the damage...i'll get pics of the head before i tear it all down tonight...
all 8 exhaust valves dented the pistons, lol
More pics and progress to come stay tuned, putting in a substantial parts order tonight...

not doing anything to the block, the head is getting ported...i'm only fixing what i have to, this is my DD the wife needs her car too, only she doesn't travel for work...as far as "going big"...i think forced induction is the way to go...and that's on hold for now...
Now that i'm pulling valves they don't even look damaged at all and they appear to be seating correctly...i'm starting to wonder if maybe they weren't damaged, but i'll let the machinist figure that one out...still gotta pull them for the port and polish, as well the resurface, as it will all be easier to clean up before reassembly this way...wish i had a better valve spring compressor...I should make one, but i don't really have the time...

1)Well since your porting the head your port matching the intake manifold as well right?
2)You might as well pull the stock cam and send it to delta it would be back before you'll be ready for it.
3)I'm not so sure about the valves denting the pistons. Are the markings fresh? The reasoning behind this is I have a set of weisco pistons and they have markings on them where the valves come close but clear the piston. Here's a pic of my pistons so you can see.

No, the dents are quite obvious in person, the pics suck cause i'm using my cell phone, but these dents are fresh metal in the the blackened face of the piston and caused a bit of burring around the dented area, stock pistons don't have valve relief like aftermarket pistons...judging by the depth of the relief on on those WISECO's you could probably roast a timing belt and just replace it without pulling the head...that's based on the fact that the dents made by the exhaust valves were so miniscule, and the inlet valves don't appear to have even touched the pistons...it looks like your only have valve relief on the one side, i would imagine that is for the exhaust side...
these are fresh cuts into the face of the piston, there is a corresponding damage to the valves, i'll post pictures of that as well, although they do not appear to be bent, you can see where the stuff that coats the valves has been knocked off the one side...

ok, so here's what got done last night...i actually finsished taking all the valves out this morning...
first, this is the damage to the valves...to me it looks pretty minor, and again the valves don't look bent to the naked eye, but i'll have them looked at this week...
this is the untouched edge of the valve...
And this is the damaged side, pic is no good, but the shiny part is dented...still appears to seat properly...
And here's some random pics

most of the stuff is either hard to find locally in the aftermarket, or roughly the same price as genuine mitsu, so i figured i might as well just get em' all in one order...
i was surprised how much it added up, since it;s mostly belts, bearings, few gear box stuff, and oil seals, lol...the most expensive stuff was the water pump, the timing belt auto tensioner, and the complete head gasket overhaul kit...it comes with gaskets for head, exhaust, intake, rocker cover, spark plug seals, valve stem seals and o-rings for pressure regulator and stuff like that...not sure if it comes with a camshaft seal so i bought one anyway...i did skip on tensioner and idler pulleys until i get the front of the motor torn apart, then i can see if they should be replaced...
so some good news anyways...i took the LSD to my friend's place tonight, to have the speedo gear, and bearings pressed on...(note: there's a couple LSD threads that gives the wrong part # for the speedo gear, it doesn't even show up as a seperate part in the manual, and it doesn't show up in CAPS because it's not listed in the diagram... i will ammend the threads, and post here as well next weekend when i get the correct part number)<- lol,nvm you can see the part number of the gear in the picture with the clutch...MD717879
Also, we looked over the head, and it is not warped , the valve guides and seats are in perfect condition, and i decided not to port it, as the way it looks, the gains will not be worth the time and money to have it done, since i am eventually going turbo...if i was staying NA it would be good to have done, but our head is actually fairly clean, and with charged air being fed through it, it won't be an issue in my opinion....it's going to the machine shop on monday...if the valves are ok to reuse they will be refitted and lapped, if not then hopefully hackish can hook me up...
so at 162,000km or just over 100,000mi your head should still be in pretty good shape

Awesome, thank you for making the effort to post and share, I know your schedule is tight.
btw since it was raining hard all day I didn't make the trip to watch you work, I figured it would be crowded in your inside workspace, no room for another box of Keith's.
