head swap + tunning

hey guys im planning on doing a evo 8 head swap on my 04 ralliart i know it bolts right up and can/ has been done. my question is when i do this with a big turbo setup do you think it would be possible to flash the ecu to run it smoothly, or am i better off just getting an aem standalone and building a tune from scratch? thanks for the help guys.

You'd have to use an Evo 9 head. Evo 8 didnt have Mivec which is built into our block so you'll need the 9. And Ive never heard of anyone successfully flashing the Ralliart ECU with anything other than the hackish reflash. But you could use an Evo 9 Ecu.

Im pretty sure tsentional over at clug 4g has a dohc non mivec head on his 4g69. but i think the best combo would be evo 9 head and evo 9 ecu that way you have dohc mivec and your not limited by tuning factors.

if the evo9 ecu worked for that swap im sure we would've heard about more people doing it already. my guess would be you'd have to run the standalone.

well from my reading it is easier and less of a pain to do the evo8 swap and get rid of the mivec mainly for tunning purposes but also to cheapen the build and not have to worry about the mivec siloniod and cams and so on. and as for the evo9 ecu i would have to match that up the the evo wiring harness to right, and wouldnt it pretty much be run as a standlone to keep the factory ecu running everything else such as radio a/c lights so on?

Here look this over. Mitsuorder is using a 4g69 block Evo9 head, wiring harness, and ECU. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=628453

And if your going non mivec and Turbo you might as well swap to a solid block too so you Don't have to worry about the thin walls of the open deck 4g69 giving out under high boost. Although i have yet to see any actual proof of when the 4g69 walls would Be in danger of ovaling. So who knows...

Good luck!

thanks guys! cant wait to start my build now probably gonna have to get the block bored .20 over as mitsuorders did cause of wall scars. and as for tuning im probably just going to go with an aem standalone to be able to control everything and run what i want e85, meth, boost by gear so on on a build like this its worth the money in my opinion.

This is a hot topic for any real modifier , while it makes a few problems in its wake it is a very open platform for the future. Everyone knows I'm a diehard 4g69 guru all the while I'm still for more power. The guys in PR have done this time and time again, this can be and has been done. If the block is built the results can and will be worth bragging about.

awesome thank you for that bit of info sir. also have been wondering does anyone know if the evo transmission bolts to the 4g69 block? and if we could use evo axels if we are able to mount the transfer case if the trans fits.
