Stupid comments like that are what polute this site.. Im not trying to justify my 16%. I know its illegal. What im trying to find out is what exaclty is legal? If Penndot cant even find in the law book where it says that 70% is of legal limit, then who am I to believe? When the cop pulled me over he showed me the law on paper with highlighted parts, nowhere on that form did it say that 70% was of legal limit and anything below was illegal.

Hold on a second. I wasn't trying to flame you. I was just stating how I felt on you trying to fight a ticket for 16% tint in court. Why you getting so defensive? If that hurt your feelings you're gonna have a rough life, cuz there are a lot worse people out there.

What polutes this site is ignorant comments intended to do nothing but hurt. And also people that take everything so literaly that they start flame wars.

If you have a copy of the October 2003 issue of Sport Compact Car, they have a list of all the states and their window tint restrictions. It does state (on Page 69) that for Pennsylvania the legal limit for tint on both front and rear windows is 70%.
Edit: Here's a link from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation that has their window tinting restrictions on it. Penndot Fact Sheet - Vehicle Sun Screening

First off..If your reading the same thread I am, Im not fighting my ticket in court. Im SIMPLY trying to figure out what is with this tint law. If PennDot is saying that nowhere does it state 70% being legal limit, then how is this enforced. Im asking this cause im gonna do one of two things. First one being take off the front 2 windows and do them legally (which I have yet to find out what % that is) or 2 redo them all to stay clear of further problems. Window tint is not cheap, I paid 250 for it and im not trying togo through this again.

I'm sorry for taking this as you wanting to fight them in court.
I tell you, 70% is crazy. Why not just say you can't put any tint on your car. It might as well be transparent. I think the coating they put on all car windows is damn near 70%. I can see me going to a tint installer now and telling them I want 70%. Then watching them laugh at me.
It looks like anything you put on your windows is gonna open yourself up for police harrassment. If you want to keep them off of you more I'd at least lighten up the front windows. It's good for me to know what's legal out there cuz I go to Philly all the time.

if the cop can't see how many people are in the car, if he cant' determine if you are going to pull out a gun or other weapon out of the glove box and pop him one, if he can't get a clear view of your face / hands, then it's too dark and he can tell the judge that he feels his life would be in danger and your ticket will stand..
that's what's meant by "interpetation", some cars with dark tint still allow enough light in to let them see you, some cars with lighter tint are like pitch black.. so it's not as simple as a certain tint level
at least that's how it is in ontario
