Timing chain or belt?

Just wanted to verify whether the 4G69 Lancer Ralliart has a timing chain or belt?

I didn't geta good look at the engine bay, so I can't really tell. And there's not a lot of information about the Lancer Ralliart's timing mechanism.

So yeah... just wanted to know for sure what it is:P

from the manual: regular maintenance schedule, 180km/112miles/90months - replace timing belt.

so every 2 years (roughly), you have to replace the timing belt, eh?
Isn't the 4G69 an interference engine, meaning that if the timing belt were to go, the engine would self-destruct?

And how much does it usually cost for a timing belt change?

I think it's generally around 100,000kms you change your timing belt, that's alot of driving in 2 yrs.

Indeed, in half a year I have only done 6000kilometers. So I would only be at 24,000 (in theory) in 2 years. Now, it depends where I am working in the summer and how much I drive to school (whether or not I carpool). I'm guessing 30,000kilometers in 2 years. Remember, i'm on a lease so I can't go over my yearly kilometers. Granted, i'm pretty sure my yearly kilometers are higher than 12,000 kilometers.

I have 19,000 km in just over 8 months. The severe maint schedule says to change it at 100km or 4 years, and is 'recommended in Canada because it best describes the operationg conditions'. It is pretty damn expensive, mostly because of the labour though.

Every single person in Canada should be using the severe schedule. It is foolish not to with so many cold starts, long warm up times etc. I wouldn't take a chance with the timing belt either, also, you are lucky you don't have a GM 3.4L. twin DOHC and 2 timing belts, cost usually over 500 dollars to replace.

I dont think you need to use the severe maintenance schedule here in vancouver, we have pretty warm winters. I havent seen any igloos in town recently.

Well you have the best argument in Canada, but there are more aspects that cause the need for the severe schedule. Minus the cold weather and you still have 10-20 things that need the severe schedule.
