? about mivec

how much more gas do u spend in mivec i hear everyone always saying they try to stay out of mivec in the highway. now from my understanding mivec kicks in from like 3500 to 4000k now for me that is like only 70mph, i am usually driving inbetween 80 to 90ish on highway each day to work. im just curious?.

stay right under 70, and your gas mileage improves dramatically

Believe it or not it makes a difference. On my way down to San Diego i was cruisin at like 80 - 100mph and i got horrible gas mileage. Somewhere around the 18-19mpg. But on the way back up to the bay area i stayed around 65-70 because of rain and i got right around 25mpg. So just slow it down a bit an you will see an improvement.

it really does help the mpg if you keep it under 70mph , you're lucky the speed limit is 70 where you live here in P.R its 55.

on my RA, I can go 75mph when the rpm is right at 3500, so I say between 70-75 is good! And plus, u can hear the mivec turn on once you reach that point, so just stay right under it!

That's still pretty low. I can get ~30mpg when I do ~74mph and stay out of MIVEC, and ~25mpg around town. I even managed 33mpg once.

on 87 octane

I've always stayed below 75mph while cruising, anything higher could be pretty wasteful for no real gain. Of course when I want to go way faster than MIVEC change-over speed in 5th gear, I'm not in 5th gear for most of the time... if you're gonna pour gas into the engine, might as well make it worth it!

I find that cruising with CC on at ~72mph with no A/C yields pretty decent mileage.
