Radiator fan acting funny

Now its not hot weather here yet, its happened on cool days too - after short or long distances being driven - the cooling fan keeps turning on and off, like driving slowly through a parking lot, or even at traffic lights, or if i pull into my drive way and turn off the engine - the fan keeps coming on, turning off, kicking back etc. for a little while. Thinking of takiing it to the dealer for a lookie. Any one had anything like this happening? or can think of any dangers related to it (thermostat screwing up or something)
Any input would be much appreciated

In case I never mentioned it in other posts- you guys (and girls!!) rock, many questions answered and problems identified, this forum is invaluable.

I know on the 03/04 models thier was a recall with something to with the controlling of the readitor fan. I am surprised they didn't get it fixed on the 06's. Considering it is a known issue hopefully you won't have any problems getting the dealer to fix it.

Sounds like a flaky thermostat. The fan is supposed to be able to turn on with the key off if the coolant exceeds a certain temperature.

If you have to drive it between now and a thermostat change, keep a close eye on the temperature gauge. If it starts getting hot, turn the heater all the way up and roll down your windows. That'll help keep it from overheating.

Temperature was normal, thats a good tip though. Had to do that working in the bush on a 45C day to get an unhappy Land Cruiser back to the mine. I'll book it in tomorrow to have that looked at.

My car has been doing it for about 2 or 3 months also. I took it to the dealer and they checked the computer for codes and nothing came back or so they told me. But I haven't has any problems with it going off and on, you get used to it after awhile and don't notice it any more. And the heat gadge has never moved anywhere beyond normal that I have seen.

Sounds like a flaky temp. sensor. If many of you are having the same issue then I would gather it's a factory fault.

I have the same problem. I talked to a guy in the dealer and he told me its a module that controlls the fans. Apparently it was giving a lot of problems and Mitsu issued a memo to the dealers not to change it unless the car was heating up. Their explanation is that the fans will work until the temp drops below 195 degrees. Yes i know it makes no sense. Anyway the guy told me to bring the car and he just placed a note in the job order that the car was heating up. I have'nt taken the car to the dealer yet, becaus i've had no time, but besides the fact that it is anoying i've had no serious prblems.
