Going Synthetic. good or bad?

keep records of your maintenance and it shouldn't be a problem. they can't refuse any warranty due to you doing your own maintenance because they don't do it for free. BMW, on the other hand, does do maintenance for free and therefor can tell you doing it yourself would void the warranty.
wow, im kinda shocked.

Dan is exactly right. I told my dealership service manager that I do a lot of my own work, and he advised just to keep good records of what I do.
Changing engine oil to synthetic should not prompt a warranty void.

I always buy my synthetic an filter then do it myself. But if im lazy or pressed for time i will just buy the stuff an take it to a garage and they usually do it pretty cheap. JUST DONT BUY THEIR STUFF!

Synthetics make my car run smoother, quieter, and power delivery seems a bit more robust. I've had good luck with mobil and royal purple. you can hear the difference between syn and regular. syn is quite, can barely tell the car is on. just don't switch between the two often, or at all

GearDownSon, you're saying buy the oil and then bring your car in for the oil change?
I guess it doesn't surprise me the dealer would sell you the oil more expensive then wall mart or something.

Dont buy nothing from the dealer total ripoff imo.
When i take it to an oil change place they generally charge me under 20 bucks to throw it all in. Granted its gunna cost you 30-50 bucks but its better than payin 80-100

Or if im going by the dealer ill pick one up like you. I mean its just a filter...

Here's some interesting reading:

I've been tempted to waste $5 to cut open a Mitsu filter and compare it to ones in that study.

I switched to synthetic a lil while back...I'm running quaker state, horsepower ed...I love it, the response is so much smoother and stronger...I also jsut got a fram sure grip...no problems with it...Just so everybody knows, if your running quaker state or mobil one you should be able to find the 5 liter bottles, for about 20-25 at your local walmart...note that's a decent bit cheaper than buying each one indivually...
