There's a rather big difference in the quality of oil filters. Mainly in the amount of filter material and the quality of the internal valving. Mitsubishi's OEM filter has particularly good valving in it, which is why (especially Evo guys) report a quieter running engine on Mitsu's filter. I wish I knew who made it for them.
Here's some interesting reading:

I've been tempted to waste $5 to cut open a Mitsu filter and compare it to ones in that study.

The manual says 5w20 recomended but still can use 5w30. It depends on temp. 90 degrees or highter use 5w30.(According to the service manual)

Well I placed some M1 and it cost me about 43$CAD with tax for 5L and 25$ for the oil change. I think I'm going to do my own oil change next time.
I don't really feel any huge improvement but the engine seams to be a bit smoother and my gas millage got better. So it's worth it and I don't change my oil very often so it doesn't really bother me. By that I mean I don't do a lot of millage.

I do all my oil changes and use Amsoil 5w-30. One of the advantages of amsoil is the longer change intervals (up to 35,00 miles) between changes. I've never run it that much but the last change was done after 10k miles and the oil looked just a little brown. Nice comparo, but i noticed that Amsoil is not there, and i wonder how would it perform.

Just a reminder, if you're like me and don't have the time to do your own oil changes, just grab a gallon bottle of Mobile 1 synthetic from wallmart for $23. My mitsu dealer charges me $20 which includes the filter. I think i only end up paying $12 to mitsu for the labor in the end which is totally worth me not having to deal with the mess, the time and the oil disposal. I've been changing my oil every 10K miles. Its definitely worth it in my opinion.
