uh oh hot dog
so last night i get in my car to drive to my friends house. and i noticed that it was really hard to get into gear. i had to almost force it in. i didnt hear any grinding. i even held the clutch in and slowly went from n-3, and vise versa. even held it between gears. and no grinding. i was guessing it was just acause it was really cold out. like 15* or something.
next time i got in the car was this afternoon at 3. i turn on the car and let it warm up for 5mins. get in and go to press down clutch and it went to the floor like nothing. so i let it on, took it off, let it on, took it off. and it just felt really...lose..soft.... it was just able to touch carpet without any effort at all. so then i go to put it into 1st and i couldnt get it in. i tried for 5 mins to put in gear. and finaly got it. so every red light or stop sign was like " please go to first, please go to first....YA!". shifting while driving wasnt bad at all. i had trouble geting to 3rd..or it might have been 4th.. one or two times.
my boss said this happend to him and it wasnt clutch like i kninda was thinking. i forgot wat it was called. a somethin somethin cylender or some kind of dyno-wizz-alator.
any one got any idea?

It's probably the master cylinder or some other part of the clutch line. Check your brake fluid, is it low? Check the clutch and make sure there are no leaks. How is do your brakes feel? Are they loose or spongy?

It means you need to replace either your clutch master or slave cylinder, whichever is leaking. Parts are around $100-ish, then if you're not doing it yourself, it'll probably run 1-2 hours of labor, depending on which one is leaking.

ya my house has been being remodeled for the past 8 motnhs so our garage is full of furnature and the other garage has my dads mr2 turbo (ya thats right) in it.
and its also -10* outside so no go on doing it my self.
so how much is labor usualy?
is this a transmission fix? do i need to go to a shop that does trans's?
its only going to take 2 hours? im not going to be out of a car for 3 days?

slave cylinder was leaking on my car... Every once in a while I can't get into first gear when its cold and have to force it in... probably not good but yea... I've already replaced the slave cylinder once, and i'll probably bleed it one more time just to make sure.

The slave and master cylinder are both external parts on our RA. Slave is by the clutch itself and the master is usually between where you add fluid and the pedal. Like otter said, 1-2 hours of labor. Labor usually runs 50-80/hr depending where you live. IMO any shop can do this, just get the part and have them do it. It's only a matter of changing the cylinder and bleeding it. So shop around for good rates and good reputation .

I would diagnose it first...no need in just throwing parts at it and hoping it will fix it. I would check to see if the "brake master cylinder" has fluid in it for the "clutch master cylinder". If it does then check to see if there is any leaks between the two. Then i would go inside the car under the DS dash and pull the boot back to your clutch....see if any fluid is present. If there is then it is more then likely the clutch master. If not then check the lines to the slave. Again pull the boot back from the slave and see if any fluid is present. If there is then it is the slave......Everything on the clutch system is a "sealed system". Just trying to help narrow it down....
