My car still shudders... but why...

About 30k ago my car started to shudder when you put about 5% - 50% breaks on. Anything more and the shuddering would stop. I was hoping at this point it was just a wheel or two out of alignment.

About 25k ago, my right drivers break pad essentially "shattered" and I was far enough from home that I gouged the hell out of my roters. For safe measure all for got replaced. The shuddering continued, although not as much.

About 20k ago, I had to replace my two rear tires because the inside 2" of inside tire wore and exposed the belts, resulting in four new tires (Kumhos). Unfortunately no alignment was done at this time. The shuddering continued, although not as much.

About 1000 miles ago I went through yet another rear set of tires (same wear as above). Since cash was a bit tight I had to spring for just two tires (this time Firestone's) and got an alignment. It showed I was off, but not drastic (I can post numbers on Monday, my printout is at work).

Still, to this very day, my car still shudders at pretty much the same amount of breaking power. With roters, wheel balance, and alignment out of the picture what else can it be?

your alignment is way out if you are eating tires like that.

the only thing i can think of if the car shudders under hard braking is that your front wheel bearings are worn

Bearings? Hubs? Are the Calipers tight and siting right? Pads?

Thus why I got the alignment, but I thought that would be the cause of my shudder too.

Possible. I have not investigated that yet.

From what I can tell there is no play, but then again I have not taken off the wheels this weekend to look (it's raining pretty good out right now).

Could it be a problem with his rotors if it shudders like that?

well since he replaced every thing last time he did a brake job, I would assume that the rotors wouldn't be warped when he replaced them.? but it's something to check

Dumb question but are you properly bedding in your brakes/rotors after changing the pads?

I had this problem when I bought my RA because the previous owner did not bed the brake pads into the rotor. So even replacing rotors won't help shuddering if you don't bed the brakes in properly as soon as they're installed.

If you have then this is a mystery that goes beyond my knowledge.

you probly warped your rotors from driving fast then hitting your breaks hard to slow down fast it creates grooves in your rotors. i used to work at ntb as a tech and it happend to some kids integra go to your nearest ntb merchants mr.tire one of them shops and have all your rotors turned they will put it on a machine that will grind off the old grooves and make it smooth surface again and get all new brake pads then see if it stops.

Bedding prevents this from happening.

i use to work for a auto parts store, just sooo you know when you get your rotors, there not perfect, some are warped just a bit. I never new this till i had a customer come in and had me take the surface off the rotors, and what would you know, wasn't much at all but still possible.
wheel bearing could be worn, Actually i have the same problem but i think its my rotors, i will find out when i get home and replace my rotors, calipers, break pads ect. I will check the wheel bearings and stuff while i am in there. If you haven"t figured it out buy mid May ill post up what i found also. I find it funny you have a SILVER 04 and soooo do I with the same problem lol.

I think a lot of us are having wheel bearing problems, especially the front drivers side. check this thread: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/la...l-bearing.html

I want to bring this thread back to life for a second or five.
There's no such thing as a warped rotor. Very interesting article here:

My car has the same problem! I have an 04 ralliart, and every time I hit the breaks, the car shudders, I feel the stearing wheel shudder liike crazy! Its not too bad, just a little distracting. I feel like I'm destroying my brakes every time though! I got the car used, and i'm not sure what he did with it. I drives beautiful, its just the shuddering annoys me. If it gets worse I'll have someone look at it, but I can't afford to fork out some 500 or 600 dollars, keeping a car like this is expensive!

so i also have a silver 04 and i had a very similar problem. Idk if its the same thing but here me out. It shuttered during breaking but randomly it would also squeak during turns. I checked my lug nuts to ensure they were fastened and while checking my rear passsenger side wheel i noticed the rim was quite hot. So i went over to my buddies garage and decided to see what the problem was. Turns out when i pull off the tire the whole inside part was worn to crap (only 5k miles on them too) and my rotor was quite warped. I ended up having a camber issue of almost 2 degrees and about a $1000 later 1 new rotor 1 new caliper four new pads 4 new tires and a camber adjustment the problem was solved... so far i only had it done 4k ago but so far all is good. I figured i would run it by you idk how your tire wear look otherwise the only thiing i can think of is a bad bearing
