Trunk issue
Hi guys,
So I have to go to the dealer next thursday for a suspension thing, but I figured I could ask the question here before asking the dealer to check this other problem.
Since I got my car (a bit more than a year ago), I never NEVER tried opening my trunk with the key. I tried that last week, but I couldn't. The key will not turn inside the lock. They key will insert fine but won't turn at all. The only way to open the trunk is from the front latch besides the driver seat, but there's another problem there ... rust.
My gas door latch and trunk latch besides my driver seat are beginning to rust a lot. Many times, I have to use a lot of force to pull the trunk latch to open the trunk, and the gas door will open as well. It's rusty I can see it. Would WD40 helps or I should change the whole latch ?
As I said, I'm going to the dealer in few days, but I figured I would ask here to see what are my options. Especially the problem where my key won't open the trunk is buggin me...
Thanks !
Neo

The tumbler is jammed with rust and your typical winter grit. Take some WD-40 and spray it into the keyhole. Give it a couple minutes to work, then spray it again, put in your key, wiggle, repeat.
Would be good to get into the habit of doing that to all your locks a couple times per year. I use my trunk key all the time and it still starts to stick after awhile.

My trunk will pretty much not open in the winter when trying to use the key. Once it warms up outside though it works fine. I think I'm going to try the WD-40 suggestion anyway since it can't hurt.

I tried the WD-40 and no success. I'm gonna wait a few hours to let it act and we'll see. If it's not working by the time I go to the dealer, I'll ask him to check it out.

Try going from the underside of the trunk and manually releasing it by pulling the lever (with the key in). It'll force the mechanism to break loose and then coat it all down with WD-40.
I had this problem and periodically I'll go through with white lith grease the underside of the trunk mechanism and the locking mechanism.
