Wheres the power?

Sorry noob question probably.

2.4 L is a large 4cyl. So why are 2.0 L bringing out more power than ours. We have a 9.5 compression rario which is alright i suppose. Specifically the Civic si, 2.0 K20 and 11-1 compression and making 200hp. It just seems to me a 2.4L should be making more power than only 162 HP and TQ. I would guess it should be up around 200hp and 170tq. Is it our computer just programed that way or the compression or simply the fact its a SOHC?

Sorry noob!

1. By time v-tec engages on Honda K motors it really doesn't produce much more power.
2. Think of the Honda prelude. For many years that was Honda's largest motor at 2.2L. Were the 4G69 DOHC it would most likely reflect numbers of that motor. I think the later preludes were 205Hp, 180tq.
3. Honda is notorious for having the highest hp/liter ratio of any car company.
4. Remember that Mitsu and Honda have different perspectives on motor tuning. Honda tunes high rpm motors for track racing. Mitsu is "rally-inspired". Think of auto-x racing and apply to a rally track. Instant tq delivery is key. You don't really get that with Honda's. Even with the famed 06TSX K24 motor, that's limited by the DBW system.
5. Both brands have their pos and negs. But trust me the RA is a beast. One thing to factor in as well, is that we have a very efficient transmission system, meaning we don't lose alot power during the transfer to the wheels. Honda's powertrain loss is much larger than ours.

If it makes you feel any better. I had one of the owners of Dent Sport Garage (famous tuner shop near Boston) working on my car. After he drove it said he enjoyed driving it more than any civic si he has ever driven.

Doesn't that SI motor only have 132 ft-lbs of torque?

Have to think too, 4G69 is SOHC, not DOHC.

Not to bash on our engines but I always saw it as an economy themed engine. I mean its been used in other non sporting mitsubishis like the outlander and the 9th gen galant. However, I believe it says a lot that our engine is actually still in production in the eclipse and galant where as engines like the 4g9X have been superceded. I think that could be seen as a testament to the 4g69's reliability.

@MadPatter - 139, but thats only to the crank

Increase in displacement doesn't equal increased horsepower. While the Civic SI can make 200 hp (barely) it doesn't have squat for torque, so you have to keep the revs up all the time when you're driving it around. On the other hand, our engine puts out a nice amount of torque for a NA 4 cyl, which makes it much nicer to drive around town, and also makes it strong enough for heavier cars, such as the Galant/Outlander.
