Throttle position sensor...
Hey, I've been having a lot of throttle hesitation lately, sometimes so severe that I have to floor the pedal just to the the car to crawl. When this happens the SES light comes on. I checked the code and it is telling me that it's the throttle position sensor. I found another thread on this and saw that we have 2 TPS, and to Accelerator position sensors? My question is this: are these sensors the same as on the base lancers, that I might be able to find at a salvage yard, or do I have to pony up the 200+ dollars for the part from Mitsu? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

One thing you may want to try before replacing the TPS is unplug all of the wire harnesses from the ECU wait a few minutes and plug them all back in. I once had replaced my TPS and still had throttle issues. I randomly unplugged the harnesses and find out that all all was well afterwords. All I had to do was re-seat the harnesses...... I cannot promise you this will work but it worked in my case... Plus if it does then you save x amount of dollars unlike someone =P

I had the same problem about a year ago.. it failed on me one day. Then was fine the next day and I haven't had a problem with it since.. I actually forgot about it til I just read this LOL. I don't know why it failed or how it fixed itself, but I consider it a fluke issue... hopefully.

What was the code you pulled?
I had something similar happen to me the other day. I ran my car through the car wash, pulled out and parked by the vacuum cleaner. Vac'ed out the car, and then got in to drive away. Started the car and it died. Started again, died. Started again, but feathered the gas a bit to keep it running. I thought a little run time would dry out my air filter, so i got on the road. Every stop light I came to, I had to heel-toe it to stop while still giving it gas. Would accelerate fine and cruise fine, but wouldn't idle.
A couple miles later, the SES light finally came on, the rpms went to 2500 and stayed there, regardless of what I was doing with the pedal. I limped it a few blocks to a friend's house, checked the code (P2173 - Abnormal intake air amount) and checked both the MAS and APP sensors. Both were dry. I left them to sit in the sun for a bit anyway, cleared the code with my scanner, and waited. After a while, I put everything back together, started the car, and it died again. FFfffff-UUUUuuu!
Long story short, the only other thing I did after that was unplug the ECU harnesses under the glove box. Waited a minute, then plugged them back in. Started, idled fine, and has given me no more problems.

I don't have it on me, I'll pull it again tonight and see. I'm positive it said Throttle Position Sensor though. Are our sensors the same as on the base Lancers?
