DO NOT GO RED! That would be the biggest mistake man. I'll never have a red car again.

the red that the Lancer came with has very very thin clear coating, if any at all. With proper care it won't have issues, really just like any other color, if you dont care about it, the paint will get ugly

The oem paint seems to bond and last longer on metal surfaces vs. The plastic-like ones.

Is there a curing time for the paint and is it ok to get it done when it's this cold out? I park on the street so it's not in a heated garage or anything...
Well the surface temperature of the car does matter but if the whole car is getting stripped and having imperfections filled in or repaired by the time that's all done the car should be at around room temperature, and depending on the paint manufacturer's surface temp spec all the car would need is warming up in the booth, no autobody shop in the maritimes would leave a car with bare metal exposed outside to rust (doesn't have to show in order for the chemical reaction to take place) especially in -7 weather, I wouldn't expect them to move it outside for any reason at that point unless they want to redo everything over again at some point ha (find a shop that warrants their work over the course of like a year or two if you can). After a car is painted in a paint booth it will most likely be left to bake and cure inside the booth anywhere from 200-350C, any place that does it right will also give it ample time to cure further after baking to polish and sand out dust nibs or runs, if any. That being said I wouldn't worry about the temperature too much, painters and bodymen know how to compensate for their conditions

We hit -25 last night in good ol' SK, cheers haha

Red does fade more than any other color it seems. But it's not just relegated to Mitsus. Several other manufacturers have issues too; Hondas, VW, Chevys (especially the 80's Vette) all had problems. Mainly due to not caring for the paint. Use a cleaner wax on the car and you should be fine. Waxing 3 times a year (Spring, Summer, Fall) and the paint will last and retain the color.

But no other color looks better than Black

My advice would be to do as much of the DIY prep work as you can, save some $$ that way.

I might be painting my car myself, JD BB, FTW (John Deere Blitz Black, for the win )

I am going with a modern hotrod theme.

OT: Has anyone seen a velocity stack intake on a 4G69?

I've had so much trouble keeping the paint to actually stay red. I've spent countless hours using polishing compounds and wax to restore the color. A dude I know with a red Evo 8 has the same problem, he has to wax it all the time. My boy gets on me all the time saying my car is salmon colored lol. Go with blue, I wish my RA was blue. Or the Orange on the new Lancers.

go with white or blue. also, if you would like to save money, you could sand the entire car down, then prime it yourself. you need to be very meticulous though and make sure everything is even. Then all you have to pay for is the paint spray and the clearcoat spray. id say that would cut your cost almost in half.
