Hood vents on my ralliart?

Hi, im new here. I've just bought a 05 lancer ralliart, and the previous owner installed a vent in the hood. I think it's like a evo IX hood vent (The picture is not mine, just that vent looks exactly like mine)
My question is , should i cover this up with some thing? I heard this vent is ok for a evo to have, but i am not sure if it's safe for my RA...especially in the canadian winter. any suggestions?

I know the VIS CF hoods have a vented cover for the inside of the opening. You could fashion a vent cover with cardboard, and lamenate it with duct tape, foil tape, etc. I would try and eliminate any exposure to the winter elements.

I am not running my CF hood in the winter, if you can manage it, you should get another (stock) hood.

The hood vent is fine and safe enough, although I highly doubt the previous owner made the vent themselves. I have had a vented hood on my car since 2005 when I got the car , it was one of my first mods. Although it doesn't snow here it does rain almost everyday of the year(not an exaggeration)and under my hood it's not the cleanest but I know it's not there dirtiest I've seen on this forum either.

If your really that concerned , you could sell/trade and get a stock one. Or you could retrofit a cover from materials at a local hardware store. Welcome to Evolutionm.net !!!Best of luck with whatever decision you make and post up some pictures of your Ralliart ASAP !!!!

What colour is your RA? And if the hood is fiberglass or carbon fibre I would look into obtaining another hood for the winter. Fiberglass and sometime carbon (depending on the quality) have a tendency to crack from the cold. If that's not an option for you and you absolutely have to run a glass or fibre hood for the winter I would suggest getting your hands on a peice of sheet metal (not wood or cardboard as they will soak up the water from the melted snow as the vent is over your header) and cut it to size and find a way you mount it to the bottom side of your hood.

Oh and welcome. Lol

Check out Black Gold Auto Imports, in Nisku. They had a few 04 - 06 Lancers there awhile ago. A quick search shows no hoods, however their database may be under-populated.

the double vent with the hump is Evo 6, Evo 7 has the double vent but is flush with the hood...

i believe RalliartRob and Ianmaki have evo 8/9 style vented hoods, with the large single vent with a hump...you could ask them

This is what i did with my vented hood. I attached 4 short bolts underneath the hood at each corner of the vent using gorilla glue. Then i cut plexi galss the shape of the vents, but a little larger, and drilled holes where the bolts were. Using wing nuts, i can close the vents. If you really wanted to, you could put stripping around the edge of the plexi glass so no water can get in at all.
