The better Car Diagnostic Scanner

Hi Guys!!

I am new in the forum , I searched a lot in some posts but no luck. I want to buy an scanner (check engine on) but no idea where to start, what is the best Car Scanner for a 04 ralliart?

I found these ones:

EBAY

http://www.amazon.com/ElmScan-Compac...gy_auto_text_c

Better a USB like the second one? can I get more details?

Any recomendation for this?

do you have a smart phone? there are lots of OBD2 scanning apps that work with the ELM 327 bluetooth OBD2 adapters that cabn be purchased on ebay for $15...the apps are generally $10-15...

I use OBDScope for Symbian (Nokia)...it's great

make sure there's a reputable app before you buy, i know Torque for android is good...i don't know about iPhone...but i did go out on a limb with OBDScope, but it turned out well for me...i just leave mine plugged in, cause i always have my phone with me...

+1 on torque. IIRC torque has an iphone app too, but don't quote me on that. I know that they have a free one called LogWorks and a couple scan tools ones that are like $.99.

and of course you could waste 50 bucks on an app that has gauges... which are included in the free LogWorks app.

for free.

OBDScope has gauges for live monitoring, scanning/clearing DTC's, and even has a datalogging feature...for $13 i'm not complaining

Just to chime in here, (back from the dead ) But I recently got a bluetooth OBD. Works great with iPhone if you have a jailbroken one! If you're using your laptop then I guess you're good to go, but if you want to use your iphone with it let me know!

Logworks app does not work sadly. It will only let you use Wifi for their app. You will need to use either DashCommand, Rev 2.0 (Hasn't been updated since 2010) or Fuzzycar ( I use this). I have tried all of them.

With my apps I try before I buy so I don't waste money, which is a good thing with these apps by the way >_<

DashCommand seems to be picky, connects but doesn't show the information such as rpm speed and mph and everything else, it will clear codes but its a pain to get the other info to show up.

Rev 2.0- It does connect, I have a cracked version so it knows and shows 33% for everything. So I may attempt it later if I want some fancy gauges.

FUZZYcar- this one works the best, connects right away. Can clear codes and gives you valuable info on the code, and all the information such as rpm, mph, air intake temperature etc works! There is about half a second delay, which I don't really mind, but it works So I bought that app which is only 5$ vs 50$ or 40$ for the other apps...

Just so you know, you will need roqyBT4 and roqyOBD from Cydia, it costs roughly 7$ but its worth it, because it allows you to connect with ease If you need help with anything just send me a message. I'll probably make this into a thread so everyone notices it.
