Yep you are right, the RA has the silly little plate (https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/04...l#post10188398)

but the base lancer (ES, OZ-Rally, 2.0L NA Engine, 4 bolt wheel, etc) is the same part as the evo 8/9

Well that's good to know but wtf was mitsubishi thinking? I don't understand why they would do that for the lower hp lancers but not for the mid hp lancer : /

It probably has to do with the orifice assembly that the RA's have. The base lancer and the evo both don't have the orifice to dampen the clutch engagement, while only the RA's do

Well can anyone tell me how the *** that stupid piece of **** does come out? I've been at it for 4 hours, and the little f***er wont come out.

Does it come out from the engine side? If so, how can I make it go past the brake booster?

Or it comes out from inside the car? I literally took the clutch pedal out and still cant manage to take it out! I'm really pissed at this, I almost took my sledgehammer to obliterate the whole dash to make room for my hands. Worst experience ever.... Please someone help me....

Also, my slave boot was completely full of oil, so i exchanged the piston with a failed seal with another one from a MX-6. (picture can be found on the CMC dissection thread). The CMC is still leaking so I'm still replacing it with my evo8 cmc I got on ebay.

Yeah it was a pain... It can come out around the brake booster, It only took me 15 minutes though and I just got lucky that it randomly found it's own position to come out. I essentially took everything off the mastercylinder. (Reservoir hose, clevis, nut from the clevis, but I left the pressure hose on so I had something to pull on.) Try rotating it randomly and it should come out.

If you are desperate and already took your pedal off. look under the dash and you'll notice that there's a gold plate with 4 bolts where the pedal and CMC bolt to. Take that plate off and you should be able to pull it inside.

Thanks for posting that picture up of the slave! let us know how it seals. might be a good replacement for any of us having leaks under there!

lol...one thing you need with it is patience. I got it out with some patience and luck. IIRC wiggling it a bit and turning till you find some room around the booster is the way youll get it out but patience is what you need....if you have big hands even more patience

I stopped working on it before setting the whole car in fire. I do have patience, but this seems almost impossible. Anyways, my patience should be back today so I can complete this install. I already took the gold plate off (that's why I have to take the clutch pedal off..) but I cant find a way to get to the banjo bolt to undo it, and been quoted over 100$ for that hose... I cant find a way to get a wratchet/key on the damn thing. really frustrating.

For the slave thing, my hopes are high. I never had a slave fail me with my Mazdas, and I guess both slaves have been made by the same company, for the bore was exactly the same. So this leaves only one thing, slave design. If this works, this will be the cheapest mod I have ever done (around 10$).

When I went to the scrapyard, there was only 2 Lancers (this should be a good sign, right?), one auto, the other one had no engine/tranny so slave was gone. I've also noticed a huge amount of Sentra's there, glad I bought a Mitsu :P (1/6 car in the import section was a Sentra). So I went looking for similar looking slave, and by 100% luck, found the MX-6 slave. I also have a escort GT slave here, pretty sure it is the same but it's another possibility.

Well, everything worked. The MX-6 piston works perfectly, let's see what will happen with time.

The evo CMC does it's job perfectly also. Pretty happy, it took time to finally put back together, but I'm glad of the result.

The clutch engagement point is a bit higher, but I guess that's a result of having no air in the lines. I'd say that the clutch pedal is a bit more stiff, which isn't a good thing as I have some aftermarket pressure plate that is really stiff.

All in all the car feels even more like a racecar. Already got 100 miles on it :P

I also changed my fan control unit, it's great that the car is completely silent on idle.

Which evo CMC did you get on Ebay? was it a brand new generic one? I get a squirt noise the first half inch of push (from the CMC all the way out to when I first start to feel pressure in the pedal) and I tried bleeding it like mad but there is no change at all. It doesn't affect the friction point at all and the engagement point it really high up so I doubt there is any air. Did I adjust the clevis wrong on the pedal?

Why is having a stiffer clutch pedal a bad thing?

Technically, having a stiff clutch means you have less chances of it slipping. But it also means I get cramps in traffic and my left calf is twice (sp?) the size of the other. I also get the squirting noise, maybe we found the reason why the RA part isn't the same as the other Lancers, I'm guessing it could be related to noise. I didn't think much about it, it doesn't annoy me as it's not that loud.
I bought the cheapest used OEM working evo 8/9 CMC. There is no adjustment I know of on the clutch, if you played with something there, you might have screwed something up. I lubed everything with lithium grease before putting it back together, so I'm sure the noise doesn't come from the pedal assembly.

I was talking about the clevis pin adjustment for the clutch pedal height and the pedal stop on the cruise switch. You know, the threaded rod that is on the CMC? I adjusted the pedal height via the cruise switch so it is at it's highest height, then I screwed out the clevis to match the new height so I get maximum travel out of the CMC for bleeding/diagnosis purposes.

ahh yes, I remember when I had a spec stage2, then I went to test drive a civic si for my friend. I would always press their soft clutch really hard and it would make a nice bang as it hit the pedal stop. lol, strong leg :P

I left it alone, but I remember what part you are talking of. I didn't even start to think about touching this, my goal was to get everything back together and the car on the road as soon as possible. I chose the be RA-less for almost two weeks and with the part in hand and incredible weather, I NEEDED to drive my car.

My other car is a 97 Legacy, station, auto. Nothing much except A to B.
