Positive Battery Terminal

Noticed yesterday that my Positive terminal is getting sort of gnarly and I need to switch it out. The terminal on the battery has 3 connections on it and one of them has a small fuse. Is it important to get the same kind of terminal to replace this one or is that fuse just a backup for something?

i think it might be for the starter, but it could be a fusible link for the entire electrical system...can you post a pic of your terminal to see what kinda of shape it's in?

Yeah, I have the same setup on my positive terminal. It's in a red housing of some sort, right? I'll take a pic of it too and we will see if we have the same thing

Great idea, I'm glad you're more well versed in electrical systems than the engineers that designed that. You're a great resource to this community.

its a 120 amp fuse for your alternator, you bypass that fuse and you can have a much bigger problem than something looking ugly in your engine bay, (fire)

Yeah I would definitely not eliminate that fuse, I assumed it was there for more than just stylish jazz. I put new terminals on and a new fuse there.

While the sarcasm is warranted from Auto 51, I applaud you on your snarky comment, made my morning thus far, my choice of words, namely bypass and dumbest, were probably not the best choice of words. I am not going to "bypass" the setup, I am merely going to attempt to "improve" on it for the sake of not letting it seize up on me or the next owner again.
I am not dumb or naive enough to think that the inline fuse used serves no purpose.
I am no electrical guru, while I hope I am a little bit of it after I relocated my fuse box and wiring in my T/A, I do hate it and I rather leave it to a engineer. A new circuit breaker and terminal has been purchased. After putting new front end parts, a new window regulator, intake manifold gasket, belt w/idler and water pump, I'd say I needed that well placed sarcastic post! No offense taken and deff laughed a bit.

Oh yeah massive difference. I no longer have to worry about that terminal disintegrating and falling off the post haha. I do have a bit less surging going down with lights dimming etc.

Plus it looks nice .

Oh I changed my setup now, I have my battery in my trunk with original terminals connected going out.

After I took off the original terminals I realized you can actually replace the terminal clamp on the positive terminal to maintain the fuse in there. Makes life easy.
