World Challenge Touring Championship

Any idea or anyone one hear if mitsubishi is entering a ralliart into there compititions? I think it would be very good publicity and for manufatures to get into this type of stuff. And i think its a non-turbo event/s so that would leave the evo out. I beleave last year the Spec-v Sentra won it.

Touring Car (TC): Cars up to 2.8-liters that are naturally aspirated are permitted. No turbo or supercharged engines. The cars can be front-wheel, rear-wheel, or all-wheel drive. The cars must be able to seat four adults, and convertibles are not allowed. Class horsepower range is 225-275 bhp.

Wasn't it one of the BMW guys who won the Touring Car championship last year? Or was it GT???

I don't think Peter Cuningham was last year's Touring Car champion... and I believe he's the only one driving a Nissan.

But anyway, I don't think Mitsubishi would enter the SCCA Touring Car Championship... but somebody should be able to do it, maybe with the support of some dealers. This series doesn't cost that much to enter. Even the semi-factory teams don't spend fortunes because the SCCA won't let them install anything too fancy...

And yes, I think the RA would be a nice car to strip down and race with in this class. The only trouble would be to find a good racing engineer who would know how to tune this engine and overall package...

I saw my previous car (Integra) win this championship 2 years ago... and it was a nice feeling. Let's hope we'll see Mitsubishis in this series soon!!!

Entering competitions and building cars for competitions costs money. Money is something Mitsubishi Motor Corp doesn't have much of right now. Don't expect to see them competing as a manufacturer in very much anytime in the near future.

Exactly. Factory backed cars for that series costs cash. Take a look at Sport Compact Car Mag for some editorials about it (last few months). Cunninghams car is pretty hardcore, and they need a new transmissions every race, and he's not winning this year either (IIRC). You can enter and compete, just dont expect to place in the top 15 without a race crew and serious financial backing...

Oh yea, and you get BHP by taking the engine out and placing it on an engine dyno.

Well, they can enter in the GT class since its force inducted, but then they'd be up against porsche's and vipers..

Last year:

TurnerMotorsports w/ Bill Auberlin won the TC with the BMW.

Champion w/ Randy Pobst won the GT with the Audi RS6.

I was told it would cost about $ 500K to get the Evo prepped for a GT season

In the rules I know you mentioned that the car has to be able to seat 4 passangers to compete....now is that buy design or at time of race? B/c if you had to leave ALL the seats and stuff in the car thats gonna leave you w/ some extra and unwanted weight.

I personally think that someone should seriously consider approaching RRM and let them tune the car and enter themselves. I'm pretty sure Rob would be cool w/ that. You can't buy promotion that good!!

I know,

I was just filling in some info as well as an idea of the $$$$$ involved. Gotta figure similar costs for prep?

I could see something happening if they got the WRC sorted out - or withdrew again

It's not that expensive to run in TC...

I'm quite sure you could compete in Touring Car with an initial budget of 300K and then lower that drastically of you could get your local or regional dealers involved by supplying the Mitsubishi chassis, engines and parts. Then you'd be left with after market parts (which you could find sponsorships for) and manhours. This is the part of your budget you have to pay for directly (with advertising/sponsorships money).

All those money concerns being addressed, you are then left with the problem of finding yourself good track staff, including a very good race engineer... all of which can be found at your local RaceMart in the race technology booth (of course I'm kidding, what do you think!)...

I think if you got in good w/ RRM and had their race fuel prepped ECU and all the other goodies, P & P, bored throttle body, some serious weight reduction and some better rubber/brakes and probably a x-brace I could see the RA doin' quiet well!
