Rpm's @ 70-80mph

I noticed my Rpm's were around three and a half at seventy five miles per hour on the highway. Is this what everyone elses RA runs at? My boyfriends eclipse runs around 2 and a half to three at this speed..
Is this normal?

Also, whenever Im driving around I get alot of heat blowing onto my feet and the pedals. Even with the air conditioner on and etc, I can feel it coming in from what I think is the engine bay. Does anyone else feel this?

Thanks!

I drive an OZ, but I'm at 3250 RPM at 80 MPH. About the warm air. If you are driving, air will naturally get forced through engine into the passenger compartment through the vents. I just eliminate that by hitting my recirc button. Try that and see the hot air stops.

Yup, those RPMs are normal for the RAs. Side effect of having such shorts gears (and only 5 of them at that.)

I'm still getting about 29 MPG even when I'm going 75 so its no big deal. Plus the car has a lot of torque at that rpm range so I can pass cars if I want.

Qoute from your grounding wire thread...
I was skeptical about grounding wires, but for giggles I went ahead and tried it.
PLEASE- Do not take this against me because this is what I have noticed. I will SAFELY take a picture of my tachs and will once and for all show that at approximately 60 mph my rpm is at about 2700 RPM. You are on your own to whether to believe me or not. No offense taken.

60 MPH = 2700 RPM
65 MPH = 3000 RPM
70 MPH = 3300 RPM **
80 MPH = 3600 RPM

So, that would make about 3500 at 70 mph by your own post, right Jeddi. I thought we all agreed your grounding kit helps smooth idle and power delivery, but it's not going to change your gear ratios and lower your rpms.

Thanks for all the help guys! I just wanted to make sure the high rpm's were normal for this car. And thanks for the tip about the recirc button. It seemed to do the trick!

Just for any of you that were wondering : no, the heater wasn't on

Yeah, I wish we had a higher 5th gear. It's a .80:1 overdrive. Be nice if it was .60 or .50:1 for highway cruising...would really drop the rpm's and probably help a lot on mileage for long trips.
