depends on what you mean by winter and where your at...

Around here Winter mostly consists of a lot of rain maybe occational snow but mostly just rain and cold this would require a different tire than if you live in wisconsen or something and half a couple feet of snow on the ground half the season.

I use the Toyo TS-1 they have a very good tread pattern for sheding water and still have a reasonable amount of performance to them.

If you're planning on autocrossing with them, I'd go with the Blizzak LM-22's. They're rated at 130 mph, wheras the normal Blizzaks (and most winter tires) are rated only to 100mph. I did a lot of homework, and the LM-22s are perfect if you're not dealing with wicked levels of snow and still want a high-performance tire.

I have a set arriving from Tire Rack tomorrow, when I put them on in a couple days I can let you know what I think.

Blizzak WS-50s seem to be the best studless snow tires, based on reviews from people who've used them. They're awesome on snow and ice, but average on dry and wet pavement, and don't have a very high speed rating. The Blizzak LM-22s are supposed to be really good on dry/wet conditions with pretty good snow/ice traction (but not as extreme as the WS-50s). There's a review on Tire Rack's site from someone who has autocrossed with the LM-22's and he said they were awesome.

It comes down to what your priority is - the best snow/ice traction, or the best "performance" winter tire.

Also, if you're autocrossing, stick with the stock tire and rim size, you'll want the sidewall strength.

The Blizzak WS-50 would be the best tire for the worst conditions. If you want a tire that will get thru anything the winter will toss at you, use that one. I have them on three of my cars and wouldn't use anything else. They are a bit softer handling and faster wearing than some of the other tires, but that's why they work so well in the snow.
A narrower tire will cut thru debris better but you will trade a little clear day handling to get that. The Blizzak LM-22 is a little less aggressive and more performance based. It works well in urban areas where you see more clear roads than anything else. But if your winter auto-xing the WS-50 would prob be best.

So it comes down too two tires then the LM-22 and the WS-50 , I will only be doing about 2 to 6 autocroos this winter and it will be in a parkinglot with snow if there is no snow it will be no winter Autocroos, and after that the rest of the time I will be driving and dry black top, they have the tendancy to clean very fast and good here in CT .
Thank you all for all the imputs .
