I think you not having the problem on your 05 was a fluke.

FWIW, my 04 does the same thing, always has. For the reasons already explained here I've always just thought it wasn't a problem.

Doesn't have anything to do with wear. It can happen to brand new RAs.

I have the same thing on my 06 RA. I only have 3000 KM on it.

One thing I noticed is that it only happens when the outside is cold. The colder it gets, the louder it sound.

Now that it's /really/ cold outside, my brakes (axxis pads) are squeeling like crazy, forwards and backwards. Very annoying.

Bad enough my car is covered in road salt and running on steelies, but now it squeels, too. Makes it look like your run-of-the-mill POS.

Mine's the opposite. no more squealing since it got colder here in the NE.

That whitish film of salt on the bottom half of a black car really gives it character.
I remember my old car, it was grey. I didn't wash it once in the year that I had it, the layer of dirt on it was so uniform it didn't even look dirty.

Sounds like a margarita

I'd make some joke about greasing the discs so they didn't squeak... but I couldn't live with myself if someone tried it :|

lol. I saw some guy who painted his calipers, but he got the paint all over the rotor and the PAD too.

If i let my car sit over night the rotors rust, and i can hear it as I pull out of my driveway making a sliding sound which could very likely make a groaning sound that you're hearing. Since i don't back out of my driveway i can't confirm it, but i know as i drive away i have to brake check to rub all the rust off and it makes a slight scraping sound as the rust wears off... But that up in Boston/New England area, i don't know if anyone else has that problem...

the loud braking in reverse IS NOT rust forming overnight... Mine did the same thing everyone here seems to be describing and mitsubishi has an updated brake pad to fix the problem. Just get a hold of a dealer and get it fixed.

it's a service bulletin so in most cases the dealer should take care of it but you will have to check with your local dealer.
