Brake noise, but only in reverse
This is the second day in a row it's happened. Backing out of my driveway, I noticed a pretty loud noise when I brake, going in reverse only. The sound is like a "yawn", sounds kinda like when a big bus is braking, or like a chewbaka yelp. NOT a high-pitched screeching or squealing sound. When I resume driving forward, the brakes make zero noise. This happens only in reverse. Any ideas or advice? Much appreciated.

The noise only happens in reverse likely because of the angle of the pads or that they are worn in from forward stopping. Dunno if you have ever done this, but if you ever rub your finger on wet glass, it sometimes/usually only makes noise in one direction. Same deal, in reverse, the pads "catch" or chatter (or groan etc) on the rust and make the noise. If you could slow it down and magnify it, the pad would be jumping up and down off the brake disk a tiny bit, very quickly. This doesn't happen in forward because the pads don't catch or chatter over the rust.
Something I don't know though is why this happens to almost all RAs and hardly any other cars. It's again probably how the pad sits against the disc.
