Spongy brake pedal

Hi,

I recently bought a 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart 5speed Manual tansmission with 120k miles on it . The car had a poor braking. So the mechanic replaced the front brake pads and bled the system for any air in the system. The brake was good for around 30 miles, but late the pedal just sinks and is spongy. The mechanic is asking me to replace the Master brake cylinder. But I don't see any leaks anywhere. What might be the other causes for the issue ?

Perhaps before buying parts you would check the fluid level daily and report it on the forum. Just to satisfy my curiosity you see, not really for any further diagnostic purposes.

Did you check Rock Auto for the master cylinder ?

The brake system was bled twice and after a few miles , the brakes sink again.I noticed that there is a slight leak between cylinder and the booster. I called Rock Auto and the master cylinder is available. Thank you 2006_RA

a hydraulic system is one of the few that the smallest of leaks will cause a failure. it's not like oil, you can't simply top it up, because the ability of the fluid to resist compression is what makes it work. Even a small amount of air in the system will greatly reduce its performance.

Jag, you asked for the part number in this thread:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/04...t-numbers.html

Cranswick provided the part number 25 minutes after your post.
