To add some real life info on the MPG of the pontiac G8 GT:

http://blogs.edmunds.com/roadtests/c...008PontiacG8GT

Well, we've spun up over 4,000 miles on our Pontiac G8 GT, so it's high time we gave y'all a fuel economy mileage update. Against an EPA figure of 18 mpg combined (15 city / 24 highway):

Average: 15.9

High Tank: 21.1

Low Tank: 12.0

I guarantee it doesn't out sell the lancer. The lancer is mitsubishi's bread and butter. It appeals more to the current market, and with gas prices increasing it is going to become more and more popular compared to it's turbocharged siblings.

And if this car is only pulling 0.80g on the skidpad I am very dissapointed. 0.80g on an AWD car, this is ridiculous.

I wish , edmunds at least, could make another full test on the ralliart with wider tires to see how things actually improve.

I agree -- the Ralliart is a special edition car, and it's unlikely to be a permanent fixture, as Mitsubishi will soon begin switching over to hybrids, just like everyone else, and that will crimp the market (then again, maybe the Ralliart will continue with only hybrid CVT Lancers below it, who knows?)

Many other have said it, but the 0.8g result is due to the tires, not the car as a whole.

Granted, but for a 27k (estimated) price tag, you think a decent set of rubber wouldn't be asking for to much. Especially when Southcoast is selling gsrs for 30k.

Well, there's always hope that in Canada they'll sell the Ralliart with a more climate-appropriate set of all-seasons, though given that it may not arrive until Fall, I'm planning on buying a set of 215/45/18 Pirelli Sottozero's for Winter, to throw on the stock GSR wheels that come with the Ralliart (original tires, and eventually better replacements, to go on custom wheels).

The "hand me down AWD from The IX" really isn't anything to frown upon. However, I think the 27k price tag is a little steep. I think if they offered the 5 speed manual that would cut the price and make it more desirable. Also, southcoast mitsu's prices will be amazing when this thing comes out so everyone who decides to buy there will save a few pennies.

You're missing the point -- the Ralliart is a premium Lancer -- giving it the same manual transmission as the regular Lancers doesn't exactly scream different. I know everyone compares it to the Evo and the price of an Evo, but it's really just a premium Lancer, not the full rally sports car that the Evo is. Sure, they used the hood, TC-SST, and (most of) the engine from the Evo X, and something like the AWD from the Evo IX, but that's just because those were premium parts that Mitsubishi had to work with. Look at what happened when they tried to get creative with the Ralliart-specific tires.

Something occured to me the other day that might be worth sharing...

First-year Mk5 GTIs with DSG didn't have launch control. Maybe the Ralliart will add that feature for 2010?

Doubtful, yes, but we can hope.

Heated seats, launch control and some wider, lighter wheels would make this car just about perfect.

Just for curiosity, how come a manual trans and launch control get along??
Isnt launch control designed for automatic trans cars?
