Help! Vibration with aftermaket rims!

Hey everyone. Hoping people can share their experience installing aftermarket rims on RA. I have been dealing with this damn vibration problem for the past 1.5 weeks, have tried two different styles of rims, but can't figure out what is going. Hoping somebody can share some words of wisdom. Anyway I had tried CSA Raker3 hyperblack 18x8, 45mm offset on 235/40/18 Nankang NS2. Since the day one I am having a problem with the vibration on the hwy only, over 100km/h. I have been back and forth to the place where I bought the rims and tires, they tried 3 different size of hub rings. 73mmx66.1 - snap when you try to tighten the nuts, but still vibrate. 73x67.1 are really loose on the hub, make no difference still vibrates. Also tried 73x66.6 no difference, still vibrates. Yesterday I went back and the shop agreed to swap the rims, for BBS replicas hyperblack see link(http://www.turnermotorsport.com/image/wheels/wheels_bbs_rsgt_lg.jpg ). BUT even after this exercise it still vibrates on the hwy, I don't know what to do now. I had taken the car back to the dealer and they had performed an alignment. Just before I installed these rims I had winter tires 205/60/16 aftermarket multispoke from Phat Catz Racing on General Altimax all winter and didn't have any problems. Even tried using differnt set of lug nuts, no difference. Guys please share information on what can be done here. I am clueless at this point.

Did you have them balanced right?

Original CSA Raker3 were balanced by two different shops twice and both times I had vibration on hwy. BBS that got installed yesterday were balanced by the guys that sold it to me.

It sounds like a wheel balance issue.

Is it even possible that two shops that concentrate on selling rims and tires have machines that are off balance? Thanks for your feedback though! Do you think it is worthwhile performing a roadforce balance on this? I am just pissed that I keep throwing money at this, should have stuck with OEM rims.

Well clearly something is wrong if you're getting vibrations above 100 KPH. It's possible for the same shop to make the same mistake over and over again.

It could be the wheels themselves but since he's on his second set, it's unlikely.

i have vibrations with the stocker. someone told me its the tires being too stiff when its cold. swapped it out for some AS Potenzas and its all good. but it tells me that there's some slight vibration coming from the suspension, chassis, drive-tran. when i had my GTS i had the same rims you just pictured and it vibrated like a ****, could not figure why.

Check out the wheel weights. Maybe you threw a weight... You would be surprised at how much such a small thing could cause..

Entirely possible that it's the shops fault and they don't know it (aka calibration error on the weight device).

I have 17" aftermarket rims with 67.1mm hub rings, and they've been absolutely fine up to just over 200 km/h (about 125 mph), which is actually slightly surprising given that the snow tires I have on (Michelin X-ice 2's) aren't rated for quite that speed.

Given that you're in Canada, my first guess would have been ice on the wheels, before balancing issues, except that it's April (and ice would easily have melted/broken off with so much effort being put into fixing the issue). If it's not balance, then my guess would be that there's something wrong with your tires, assuming that your car isn't defective and that the wheels are torqued on right. Safe to assume you have nuts that fit your wheels properly?
