That's good news! You will definitely get a nice cut from that!
I still think you should go with something used, non-turbo, and manual. Get your feet wet with something you can learn everything on, and then take the plunge into something you'll really enjoy. Who knows, your priorities may change heavily in the next few years, I know mine have. When I was 18 I was clueless and bent upon just having a "lancer". I'm 23 now and my knowledge and perspective have both grown. You may not want to drop all this cash on a car before you are fully aware of what it is and how it stacks up to competitors (no offense, just saying it's a possibility that you could benefit from researching more).
I am very happy I went with a cheap lancer though. Despite my frustrations with its performance, it was only slightly used when I bought it at the beginning of college and it opened up a whole new world for me. It's not the car for me in the long run, but I'm using it a tool right now to fine tune my car knowledge and prepare myself for a good decision when I know my life plans for the next 10 years. I'll probably be in school until I'm 30 (damn phd is a horrendous process), and I don't want excessively high car payments or loans to limit my ability to get financial aid for school or to pay for basic expenses.
Things change, and the less of a burden you have on yourself at a young age the better chance you'll have of being able to do what you want to do. Less financial responsibility = more freedom. Don't take out a huge loan for a car and end up settling for less when its time to get an apartment or plan for grad school.

He can still manage to get a good apartment and own an RA guys. His parents are helping him out for now and when he gets older he'll have a better job.
One thing about life is you either live it and enjoy it or you don't and you only have one life so if you like the car get it man who cares what its gonna cost its not like hes buying a freakin 50,000 dollar car!! its in the 23+ range. If his parents are helping him with insurance then why not if hes a good kid he deserves it.

To the OP: Do lots of research on the different cars you are looking at getting. Test drive what you can and see what you like vs. what you dont like. One mistake I made with my car was that I jumped into getting my RA a little too soon. I fell in love and let my emotions of wanting a new car get in the way, but I got lucky and didnt make the wrong decision with the RA. Find out what you like, what you dont like, and make your decision. Definately look at the RA (already have been obviously) and also look at the WRX, MS3, and even the SS (if you dont mind a cobalt). These are all very nicely built cars but they are all different in many ways. Obviously you are looking to get a new car, so was I. Once I realized I could get a new car, I wasn't looking back, and I'm sure you aren't either.
Find out what YOU like, not what a Mitsu enthusiast website member or subaru enthusiast website member like. Im sure Amby can tell you what he likes/dislikes about his whip and the new WRXs out there. We can tell you what we like/dislike about our RAs.
Can we all stop arguing about things that are irrelavent? Thanks.

No, they're different leagues. You might as well argue that a GTS is in the same league as a Ralliart because they have "similar" performance numbers. An Evo would absolutely destroy a Ralliart, even a modded one.

When I bought my ralliart 09 which was a few months ago, I was making $13.00 an hour working 5 days a week and I bought a full blown fully loaded RA at that time. I knew what I was getting into but I was confident that I would pull through and find a better job. Know I'm a full time database engineer and I have no probs making payments.
