Rattles and Squeaks..?

Hello all,

I'm contemplating buying a new RA as my daily driver, thus into full research mode, so I would like to know any user experiences with respect to the interior build quality.

Is anyone's RA suffering from any undue rattles and squeaks within the cabin at all? You know the sort, plastic creaks, annoying vibration sounds after a few thousand Km's, that sort of thing.

I'm 95% convinced that the RA will be the car for me, now just getting into the nuts and bolts issues of ownership.

Thanks in advance.

10,000 miles. There were some squeaks when turning into my steep driveway for the 1st month or so, but it doesn't do that anymore. Makes since with the stiff suspension though. Other than that, only rattle I notice is the lock in the seatbelt tensioner when on bump roads. Can only hear it when the radio is off and it is probably because my ear is basically right next to the tensioner, I'm 6'2" so the seat is back right next to the B pillar.

Other than that there aren't any squeaks / rattles to speak of. And I know I'm being picky about the 2 listed.

Minor rattle behind the radio but that was only because i took it off to install iPod cable. Probably just a loose wire. Also check the interior pillars (A & C) some ppl are complaining that they are starting to warp, I think i may have the same issue as well.

The plastics are cheap, the overall interior quality is sub-par. I have a rattle in the front console area and one near the rear passenger seating area. The rear rattle was always there and really noticeable at speed and the console rattle came after a few thousand miles.

The dash is very subceptable to scratches as well as the door sill plastics. The pillar plastics seem to be of higher quality than the rest of the interior. The dash as well as the doors seem to have a hollow feel and road noise is terrible, especially in Sport mode.

Except for some minor chips from driving on highways, which is expected, the overall paint quality is satisfactory in my opinion and should require a few coats of good quality synthetic wax. I should have opted for the clear bra.

I've had my 09 RA for one year now and the glove box has nasty rattle. The noise is less apparent when I drive with the glove box open, so I'm thinking it's the latch or possibly the hinges. However, the noise seems to be more prominent during the winter. Probably because of the plastics expanding and contracting with tempurature changes.

I'm also hearing a constant rattle coming from the instrument cluster. The noise will go away when I apply hand pressure to one or both arched sections of the dash.

You should be able to adjust the bin latch to eliminate rattle.
A touch of lubricant to the dash panel may minimize that noise.
The door panel noise most likely is coming from where the rear of the door meets the pillar. Add an adhesive felt pad at location of the rattle.

27k miles and I have the glove box rattle as well. I had a center console rattle but figured out that it was the cover door for the aux plugs rattling against the RCA plugs while plugged in.

Your door rattles may very well be the bolts from the window glass to regulator being loose. I fixed mine myself but there is a TSB for the matter that the dealer will fix for free.

18k kms here, approximately 13 months of ownership

There are some creaks and rattles that are temperature dependent (when under 5*C), but overall, less creaks and rattles than the 08 GTI I traded in for it.

I came into this vehicle expecting the typical Japanese rattlebox but it's no worse than most Japanese econoboxes.
