If Evoscan works on Linux, you are in luck. The Linux OS can actually run using a 2GB thumb drive, which makes booting up feel almost instant. A couple hours of googling and research will help you understand more of this. Working with a laptop and Linux is the way to go.

Limitless doesn't support Linux. Which was 1 reason I went for an XP based computer. They are willing to let some one work it out but wont do the job themselves, and I'm not that advanced. I believe they rely on the community to much for advances for example I'm in Australia and the best logging option for the RA is the generic Evo X option, for Limitless to release an Australian RA option they require someone else to enable mode 23 on their Aus RA and log enough data for them to release the upgrade. Easy enough if you can read the coding.

I use hibernate function in Windows XP to really cutdown on my boot-time to like 30 secs. My "carputer" is an Acerone Netbook (first generation). Another plus for this is my custom evoscan virtual gauge layout is retained everytime it is powered up.

To the OP, I bought a right angle OBD-II (6ft) extension cable (from scantool.net) and permanently zip-tied it under the dash... snaking it all the way to the passenger side where the openport adapter and netbook are mounted using a kit from ezlaptopmounts.com. Installing the carmount was the difficult part of my setup.

Unfortunately, hibernate doesn't like the laptop I use. I will have to live with the one minute boot time for now.

^ Have you tried doing a clean XP install? Remove all garbage software, including antivirus/security stuff... Hibernate should work 99.99% if your OS is clean.

Yes. I did a clean install. I have no antivirus installed since it is not connected to the Internet. I've also turned off any processes and services that are not needed. It is an older laptop using pentium M at 1.8ghz. There are other problems too but the laptop was free so I can't really complain too much.
