Quick Tire question

Hey guys, sorry if this has been mentioned before. I've been looking through the forum posts and haven't quite found the solution.

So the time has definitely come to replace by stock tires and I have been planning on getting the Continental ExtremeContact DWS. The problem I'm having is... the tire size I want seem to always be on back order.

I'm sticking with my stock wheels, so I'm wondering what would be the best option. The 225/45ZR18 was my preferred choice, but these seem to never be available while the 215/45ZR18 size is currently available. TireRack is saying that the 235/30-20 size is possible, as well as the 225/40ZR19. So my question is... since I'm staying with the stock wheels, what would be the better choice? Just keep waiting for the 225/45ZR18, get the 215/45ZR18 which is available now, or consider the other optional sizes?

Annnd I'll admit, I'm pretty newb when it comes to tires, so any advice is greatly appreciated!

Go with the 225/40ZR18. They are always in stock and are only 2.1% smaller than the 215's. Which means your sppedo will show you going 60mph when you are actually doing 58.3mph.

If the 225/40ZR18's are in stock now, I would go with those. I use 225/40/18's as the size for my winter tires which are dedicated to the stock wheels and fit with no issues.

225 is the width of the tire, so it's 225 mm wide. 40 is the sidewall size (in proportion to the width size), so it's 40% of 225 millimeters tall. 18 is the wheel size they will be fitted to, so they would sit on 18 inch wheels. ZR is the speed rating of the tire, meaning the miles-per-hour interval for the safest driving. If I'm not mistaken, ZR is a pretty high speed rating so you'll be able to drive 100+ mph safely ("safely" in reference to the tire performance and productivity).

One thing to note for the future when buying tires, is that the smaller the sidewall, the less your tires will flex, or "sidewall flex." When people talk about how "squishy" their tires are, they are referring to the sidewall property. Personally, I run a small sidewall. Less sidewall flex = better cornering. That's just me, though

Awesome! Much appreciated guys. I'm going with the 225/40ZR18's. You were right, those were in stock most everywhere. If all goes well, I should have them installed before the end of the week! Thanks!
