Exaust tips turning black
Hey Guys,
I'm noticing that my exaust tips have black soot on the bottom of them. It looks like a black liquid is dripping from the exaust.
I havn't actually seen any liquid come out from the exaust, I'm just looking at the crome tips. Is this normal? It seems to wipe off pretty easily, but comes back. New 2011 RA with 4.4K kms
Thanks!

yes, 100% normal. water will condense from the atmosphere in the exhaust system after the exhaust and atmospheric temps cool enough. Then when you start the car up it blows the water out before it gets hot enough to cause it to evaporate...

And if you want a little trick to keep the tips cleaner for a little longer.. You can spray armor all wheel protectant on them. Works like magic!

The black soot is a product of the car's rich stock tune. As mentioned above, it's normal. You'll also notice that if you're hard on the throttle, your car will make some black smoke. This is also normal. Turbocharged cars tend to run more rich that non-turbo cars, especially on the stock tune. Its harder on gas and robs some of your power, but at the same time it's safer for the motor. If you have a good tune done, it will probably eliminate some of the black smoke, but your tips will still get black (but not as quickly). You'll also pick up some power and see a small improvement in gas mileage.
