I put on Eagle GTs and I like them. Seem to have good grip in wet / dry and are very quiet.

Summer tires work fine in wet conditions if that is what you're thinking, but if you're thinking you might be using chains then don't use summer tires since the material is soft and will get jacked up by chains.

I think a cheap decent all season is the ECSTA ASX by Kumho

I love that analogy about a ballerina in boots. All-seasons are such a waste

Summer tires are not meant to be used in cold conditions, period.
