Powder-coat rims

I was just wondering if it's bad to powder-coat rims a 2nd time.
I bought a used set of evo x stockers and they were powder-coated already.
Just questioning if it's safe to re-powder coat them again.

Can't see why it wouldn't be safe, but if in doubt ask the powdercoater you're going to use.

It is not recommended. Powder is electrically charged to stick to the metal. Once the first layer is baked and cooled, it makes it difficult for another layer to be put on.

They would soda / sand blast the rims first before re-powder coating the rims

For 18s, I want to say around $200-$300 depending on the condition of the wheel (removing previous powdercoat usually costs more).

thats pretty expensive... I've dealt with powdercoating a lot, though not in car parts, and I would have guessed about half of that

$100-$150 would be damn cheap. That is $25 per wheel. 18" wheels have a lot of surface area and ones with powder already on them require quite a bit or time to remove the powder and properly clean them. I think the cheapest I have seen for 18" wheels is $40/wheel.

That's what I was quoted around 300-400 for four 18" wheels

Depending on the quality of the coat - it might be really pricey

I've seen some real quality powdercoat jobs where they took a hammer to it and not crack the coating. I cant see any sandblasting will penetrate.

You would need to have a chemical bath which is usually more $$$$

Toronto Prices on PC is roughly $400-500 for a set of 18x8's
Sandblasting is another $100, chemical baths are $50-75/rim

but there are the budget coaters - for about $250-$300 out the door depending on the color
