Mine had actually blown out the seal and was leaking fluid, so it was both noisy over bumps and was visibly wet.

It is always a good idea to remedy as soon as possible as there are other components that can be affected and their lifespan will shorten considerably. That being said, I waited about a week before replacing mine once I knew it needed replacing.
