Finally got my car back today; here's what they had to say:

We have removed the transmission and found that the end shaft seal is leaking between the engine and transmission. We have lifted the vehicle and inspected, found that the transmission is leaking, called Mitsubishi Tech Line (127955) and we were instructed to remove the transmission and send in picture, Mitsu received pictures and we were instructed to replace the end shaft seal, clean and reinstall, reinstalled, test drove and reinspected for leaks, no further leaks are detected at this time and the vehicle at this time performs to manufacturers specifications.

Right on! This might be something that all of us RA owners need to be mindful of. In your case, it was obviously a manufacturing or assembly flaw, but those types of seals are wear items. Definitely something to put on the checklist when doing maintenance inspections later in the car's life.

tranny oil leak

so i went under the car to do a regular oil change today and noticed some wet spots on the plastic cover before starting the oil change. I removed the cover and oil is leaking around my transmission. Anyone else notice this. Im completely stock and only had the car for 3k miles so far. It has around 10700 on it. help?

Haven't heard of any tranny oil leak issues before. I recommend taking it to the dealership to find out what's up with it.

I had the same thing happen to me. I noticed the leak after about 1 month (1,200 miles). Ended up being a bad seal on the tranny.

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you keep your receipts and keep record of when you did the oil change and what your mileage was at the time you changed the oil. At least that's what my dealership told me.

Changing you engine oil should have zero effect on the SST leaking.

yea, there's a bulletin on this. depending on how bad it is, just replacement of the cover and a re-seal with some heavy duty rtv type stuff. no biggie.

Ok, I wanted to bump this old thread for a legitimate reason. I noticed a couple similar symptoms of the transmission leak problem, on my car. On my previous oil change, I noticed a small build up of oil on the plastic tray under my engine oil pan. I thought maybe I didn't tighten the oil filter on hard enough and it leaked a little. Then I remember NOT noticing any dried oil on the oil filter. I remember just shrugging it off and moving on. I don't know why I didn't find any of this alerting until now! So I made an appointment to have this checked. I'll update to let you all know what I find out.
