Yes, see post #2592, two above yours.

Nope. You're probably just becoming more RA-aware.

Some musings on turbo noise...

My turbocharger started whining the day I took my RA for a dyno test with its new boostpill - late in 2010. It's been noisy since that day, but it hasn't got any worse, and hasn't caused me any problems.

Several knowledgeable people have listened to it and told me it's slightly "out of balance". When manufactured, the blades are apparently ground in tiny increments to balance them, making them quiet. It doesn't take much to make them go out of balance and start making a noticeable noise.

Mine makes noise while spooling. It sounds like a far-away siren - definitely worse when cold. And rather annoying! I can't hear it at full boost, though.

However, two experienced motorsport engineers have said they consider it perfectly normal for a t/c car... and Mitsubishi dealer said the same...

Some turbos are noisy from factory. Some turbos get noisy later.

Your apparent noise may be totally different to mine. Could be a boost leak. Could be a hose has come off (between upper-back-right of engine and the intake). Could be your air cleaner box hasn't been properly closed up - those are a total pain to get right. I dunno (and I'm not a mechanic, lol).

If it's an out of balance turbo, could it have been "caused" by the retune? Well, yes, I suppose, if you ran the engine/turbo harder... and your turbo was just waiting for an excuse to get noisy. I reckon mine was! Them's the breaks.

Could there be something "left over" in the ECU after flashing back to stock, making your turbo noisy and transmission shift differently? A definite no on that.

Hope that helps!

Rich

2592# post is for upgraded pill not stock pill. I've also noticed a hang or lag in the higher RPM range with the stock pill. This is in every variance. Tho I drive in manual Sport, auto normal give a real nice jurk from 1st to 2nd. Tho it seems to only do it with it wants. I just went to the gas station with it stone cold and it was fine. Kinda confused. Right now.

Yup, I realise that the two advance maps I put up are both boostpill maps, not stockpill.

I simply wasn't going to spam this thread with 10 x 1MB attachments. We've had 2 people test it for about 24 hours... with good results... but I'd love a sample set of more than 2 before I put this whole thing to bed. So I chose the most commonly used 2011 maps and went with those.

My hope is that I get verification from a couple more v27 2011 boostpill users that their SST behaviour is pleasant and well-mannered.

As soon as I'm happy, this revision will magically find its way into ALL 2011 ROM links you find on the first post of this thread. All 2011 stockpill, TBE, TBE+AEM maps will then be sweet... and you'll be free of those weird looks from passersby!

Damn, you're on the ball. Seriously, there's a component to this issue that makes the shifts perfectly sensible when the engine coolant temp is stone-cold. As it warms up, the SST gets progressively more grumpy.

Kind of the opposite to me first thing in the morning.

so i finally received my tactrix with boost pill. so when I went to read my stock rom, it seems to have read it from the ecu as everything went crazy, but after it finished there was no information shown under ROM info. i save it anyway and went to reopen it but ecuflash says ecuflash could not recognize the ROM image using the current difinitions. I downloaded the 2011 USDM definition from the website given on the first page and loaded it under the correct folder. I can see the gst basemap after I downloaded it but the stock ROM i pulled off my ecu. What am I doing wrong, just want to make sure I have the correct stock rom before actually flashing over to the GST basemap.

Here is an easy way to get your ROM ID:

goldenevo.com/romcheck.php

You'll need an extra ROM definition xml to reflash your stock ROM image. The above link will help with that process.

Rich

PS. I am still awaiting feedback on those "revised" boostpill 2011 basemaps - from someone who had used the original v27 release, and had experienced upshift rev-hang 1st-2nd...

Actually just figured this problem out a few minutes ago with some help from another member. Well my 2011 has a different ROM id that what was listed on goldenevo website. So I went into the rom id that was on the website and modified it inside notepad with the correct rom id. Then reloaded that into ecuflash, that seems to have worked as I can now open up my stock rom inside ecuflash. I will be loading up the new basemap for 2011 tomorrow and test it out.

Just found your work to resolve this in another thread - thanks TurtleRA for helping out!

I'm going to go and add a basic definition to Golden's site for "other" 2011 ROM IDs: 56940010, etc. That way it won't need bashing of xmls to achieve basic stock reflash ability!

Please download and flash the new version of v27 2011 boostpill ROM (you said you had Tactrix+boostpill arrive, right?):

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/9952375-post2592.html

91oct and 93oct versions are attached to that post. These have a revision to SST/throttle stuff, to resolve some funny upshift behaviour.

Enjoy!
