Glad you guys are enjoying the basemaps.

I apologize for being a bit quiet the last half year or so. A huge thanks to Richard for keeping this stuff up.

A whole lot of change has been happening in my life, all for the better. One large change is going from a 3 mile round trip commute to a 110mile round trip commute. Didn't take long to realize, after spending $250 in fuel in only two weeks, that using the RA for that commute couldn't continue.

So now:

So erm, just wondering.... Will you be releasing a DIY flash for turbo diesel golfs??

That'd probably be kinda tough considering they're direct injected. You could only really push the limits of where the fuel injection is now. Unless someone has figured out a way to change the "injectors" on those engines.

Soooo....... $250/week is a bit much so you've brought 3 * golfs?

With you on the fuel cost though. Chewing though 3,500 km/month at the moment :eek

...and in Australia, fuel is more expensive than US - about $1.65 a litre right now. It's costing me about $80 to refill with 98RON.

Not half as expensive as I remember it being in Europe, though.

Thoughts on just a highflowcat/test pipe upgrade

If I just did a highflowcat/test pipe upgrade with the stock downpipe and exhaust is the TBE MAP applicable or do I also need the Cat back exhaust ?

This is cheap plus it should be easy to get it passed the wife police.

Any comments as to what power gains I could expect.

No, TBE map is for a TBE (and boostpill).

Just to clarify

Richard just to clarify:
TBE - Turbo Back Exhaust = down-pipe, cat/test pipe, CBE - cat back exhaust

You have previously mentioned that a down-pipe is not required for the TBE tune as the Ralliart Turbo is so small.

Changing just the cat with a test-pipe is not sufficient as there is still too much back pressure in the stock exhaust ?

All above assume BoostPill+93Octane

Yep. Bryan reworked the tune using test subjects who had HFC/testpipe and an aftermarket exhaust thereafter. He recommended against using the TBE tune with "just" HFC/testpipe.

When TBE tune discussions come up, I tend to recommend replacing the factory FMIC too. The TBE tunes run more boost and leaner mixtures than the regular boostpill tunes... so banging an Evo X FMIC on there is a sensible move.

Rich

PS. My previous response was rather short because I had just crawled out of bed!

What would it take to make tune of synapse BOV/dv Out of this? Like $$ wise? This way everyone with a Ralliart can get the synapse Part and rock away like super stars :-)

The synapse can be a different story than most BOVs.

A diverter valve tune version? Not going to be coming from me, that's for sure.

What does this magical device give you? Please don't tell me it's all about the noughties fad psssshhht! sound.

There are already FORTY-TWO tuned ROM files for the Base Maps. This would multiply them up even more.

Nah, I'm not touching that. Sorry mate!

It surely can't be much of a big deal for someone with the skillz to get hold of, sort out, and post up the required tweaks. The Base Maps are meant to be a "base", after all... a starting point for customised tunes...

Cheers,

Rich

It would just not leak, and open alot quicker so coming off the throttle will be smoother.
It wouldn't affect how you set up your tune or how these tunes function.
You'd adjust the plumbing of it to suit your setup - Port A+B / push pull etc

I run one of these and when i had the stock ra turbo the only real benefit was the on/off boost smoothness, i found my stock ra one to stick a bit which made for a bit of rough ride coming off boost. Since the ra turbo was only being run in the low 20psi, leaking wasnt really an issue but it was always nice to know it wouldn't be an issue.

I mainly got it because i was eventually putting on a bigger turbo. Now that i have the EF2 on running 26psi i dont have to worry about possible leaky plastic BOV's.
