God I loved Ren and Stimpy. I'll see what I can do, it stopped on its own now that it has stayed cold. Gotta wait for a few days of warmth before another cold snap then I can. Log that is.

Hey guys, I just flashed the ignition timing map from a 2012 on my 2009 engine... I was curious as to why the '12s had such advance idle timing compared to earlier years. I had read elsewhere that it resulted in greater induction vacuum at idle, and some pseudo/placebo effects of a smoother or more quiet idling. Anyone running advanced idle timing on an earlier model RA? What's your results? Should I be expecting anything different? I'm hesitant to claim smoother idle as it could be entirely placebo and I hadn't paid much attention to idle quality beforehand. But it feels as if nothing much has changed.

Onyx, that's probably best in its own thread. It'll get totally lost in this one, lol.

RPM stable?
I've tried ignition more than 16 - RPM is not stable, but the fuel consumption is reduced.

HALP!

When flashing the new map I get a "The image you are trying to flash contains changes to protected areas! Interface close" message in the task info pane. What does this mean?

It means you've chosen the wrong Base Map for your ECU.

Read your ECU first. Find out what its ROM ID is here. Hit 'Choose File', select it, choose 'Send File'.

Post up the ROM ID, and I'll point you at the correct Base Map for your vehicle.

I when I read the ECU I get an Unknown Rom image message stating "ECU Flash could not recognize this ROM image using any of the current definitions. You can choose one of the following options.
Abort using this ROM image
Continue with this ROM image with no definition
Use wizard to create new definition

My guess is that it was the wrong Base Map selected, and choosing the right one worked.
