HP gains from modifications based on 1/4 mile results.

Using the simple HP calculator found here:
http://www.dsm.org/tools/calchp.htm
Along with my 4 stock 1/4 mile runs and my vehicle weight taken at a set of truck scales I came up with bone stock HP numbers as follows:

248 by ET and 249 by trap speed average over 4 runs.

I do not claim these are accurate, correct, or comparable to any dyno!

But they are comparable to results obtained by the same method. I did one run with the bolt on modifications and with the stock ROM in the ECU

292 and 295 . . . . a gain of 44 by ET and a gain of 46 by trap speed.

I tried 3 different ROM's with similar (not identical, but close) results:

306 and 317 . . . . a gain of 14 by ET and a gain of 25 by trap speed.

So, my over all gains are 58 by ET and 71 by trap speed.

I always trust trap speed results more, not because they are higher There is less effect on trap speed due to track conditions, traction, launch RPM etc than there is on ET.

So in conclusion I have a gain of APROX 46 HP from the bolt on parts, and another 25 from ECU tunning for a total of 71 HP gained.

Track results are in the drag race forum.

That's a highly inaccurate way to measure HP gains. There are too many other variables at play including driver, track conditions, tire conditions, etc. Given your mod list, a gain of 71 HP does not seem reasonable at all.

Every bolt on other than a turbo upgrade and cams isn't enough for 71 HP? Ummmm, OK... if you say so.

I gained 9 mph in the 1/4 mile. You tell me how much HP gain that is. Oh, and once again ignore the giant text above this statement like you did in my original post.

If you don't claim these as accurate, correct or comparable, why post them? Clearly you're trying to say that your car gained whatever power because of the difference in 1/4 mile time. Well guess what, as I said, there are many factors that go into a 1/4 mile run. Your suggestion that you're over 300 HP is nuts given what mods you have.

timeslips would do justice.

Man AMS only ran @104ish in the 1/4 mile with full bolt-ons.

A stock EVO MR with launch control does the 1/4 mile in 13.76 @ 101.10 and has 291 HP. I do the 1/4 mile in 13.279 @ 103.9 mph. So how much under 300 HP am I?

Really, tell me. I want to know.

Keith

PS: Full break down of the time slip is in the Drag race forum, temperatures in the high 50's that day.

Did they have upgraded cams and turbo for 104 mph? If not, then 104 sounds just about right... Cam upgrade and turbo upgrade are pretty much all I am missing from my setup right now... what do you consider full bolt-ons?

Well let's see, you're car weighs less than an MR and we have no idea if that MR 1/4 mile result is accurate (ie. represents the best an MR can do). We also don't know at what altitude it was done at. Looking at the trap speeds, you're only 3 MPH faster than a stock MR.

Well, they were both done at the same track. I know this, because both cars were mine. Mine is the best bone stock X MR 1/4 mile time I have seen posted on these forums... if you can find better feel free to post it up. I was expecting to run 14's in the MR from all the trash talk on EVOM about them and how much the SST sucks. I was surprised and pleased to run 13.7 @ 101. Temps were in the low 40's that day. My runs in the Ralliart were in the high 50's temperature.

Oh, and if weight has an effect (no $hit really?) do you think perhaps that is part of the equations used?

I simply do not that think this is an accurate way to measure HP at all, you freely state this yet you're arguing as if it was the word of god. Do you honestly think you gained 70 HP from your bolt-ons? You have a small turbo, a 70 HP gain is completely unrealistic.

Wow. So, track results with a 9 mph gain in trap speed mean absolutely nothing.

You are correct, I LOST power from all my crappy bolt-on's. I should have known better than to argue with an intellect like yours.

Enlighten me oh great and powerful one. How much HP gain do you need to improve your trap speed by 9 mph in the 1/4 mile in a car that weighs 3,685 lbs with the driver? It is simple math. Go ahead and work it out. My car on track weight when I ran stock was 3790 lbs. You will need that as well for your calculations.

Go ahead. I am waiting.

Up until now your argument consists of one thing and one thing only. You saying "I don't think so"... with nothing to back it up.

OMFG! Yur like teh biggust exaaajurator eva! You say 103.9 trap and AMS ran 104 trap with full bolt ons! Liar!

[/end sarcasm]

This is great info! It certainly sounds like you're a more than a competent driver. Drags aren't my thing, but you're doing quite well with the TC-SST. A few words of wisdom though: Rev quietly... you might upset some of the natives...

No $hit! AMS with the same setup but with a custom tune makes a 90 wheel HP gain but my car with a generic ECU flash and boost increase from the Forge WG actuator instead of a boost pill can't make a 71 crank HP gain. Guess it's because I'm retarded?

AMS ran a 12.9 @ 104 with full bolt-ons. and a tune of course.
Their tunes net you about 40 WHP.
Every other bolt-on will get you about 5-10 hp.

So yeah 70 WHP is realistic.
In my book you are not far from 300 WHP.

according to your mods with a tune..you should be in the 270-280 WHP range.
since baselines are like 200 WHP.

anyways, nice mods.
13.2 aint too shabby. You should be in the 12's tho.

here was AMS' set up
